Finally gave this a look again and I think found the problem.
The programs work fine in a brand new sandbox in the latest beta
But when I use a sandbox that has internet access blocked the rpgmaker programs freeze

That didn't seem to help.
I'm not running any anti virus besides just the builtin stuff from windows 10.
Not really running anything special, but if the program is also freezing with you than that would indicate it's not really something on my side, just some compatibility issue with sandboxie.

I've noticed the same problem with any rpgmaker content. These games used to work a few versions ago, although they'd not run maybe 20% of the time. But nowadays they just freeze up completely Any other content I run from the same forced folder works fine, it's just rpg maker games that fail. ------...
