Sandboxie usage
Hello, I just wanted to ask a question before I purchase the software.
I have a Windows program that uses the local user public folder location where config files and database is stored but I would like to install the software twice on the same computer with different config file and database so as you can see, with the local user public folder being utilized I am unable to do this. Will I be able use Sandboxie to do this having two separate instances of the program running in it's own Virtual Environment? (separate user public folders)
I will still need the program to be able to access the Internet and my USB devices. Thank you

Re: Sandboxie usage
Hello matrixebiz,
Depending on the program and its dependencies, you may or may not be able to run multiple instances of it. Sandboxie is not a VM, nor it was designed for this purpose. Also, not all programs will install inside a Sandbox.
Something you can test with the free version of Sandoxie is to run one instance of the program while you run another on your host and see what happens.
Regards,
Barb.-

Re: Sandboxie usage
okay, thanks, I was able to get 2 versions installed and working but I am not at home right now but to they still have access to the USB ports like normal and the internet?
I need them to access the USB TV Tuners that are also installed to my main windows installation. They are installed as a windows device driver etc so is the Sandboxed software still able to access these devices that are install outside the Box and installed to my main windows installation? Can i configure the Sandbox to access these? thx

Re: Sandboxie usage
I assume you wanted me to see this;
"Applications can never access hardware such as disk storage directly, they have to ask the OS to do it for them"
is there some option to allow the Sandboxed program full system access to behave as though it is installed to the main OS?
Should I maybe try and find another program to do what I need?
For the Internet settings I do not see the Settings heading in the new version;
Internet Access
Sandboxie Control > Sandbox Settings > Restrictions > Internet Access

Re: Sandboxie usage
matrixebiz,
Sandboxie should be able to see your hardware.
As for access, you have different options for restricting/allowing:
https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?Res ... ssSettings
Internet access: (added the missing step!)
Right-click on your Sandbox ---> Sandbox Settings > Restrictions > Internet Access
As for whether Sandboxie is what you need or not, the best way to tell is by testing it yourself.
If you encounter any issues while running your program, let us know and we will assist.

Re: Sandboxie usage
Okay sorry about that, now back to a basic question
I have the program installed, do I only access the program directly from the C: drive in the Sandboxie folder then create a shortcut to my Desktop or can I run the program right from the main Sandboxie window?

matrixebiz,
To run a program via Sandboxie you can right-click on a Sandbox --> Run Sandboxed--> Run Any Program

Re: Sandboxie usage
Okay, I selected Run Any Program then selected the program to run but when I exit the Program I have to keep doing the same process.
Quicker to just create a shortcut on the Desktop to the C:\Sandbox program exe file

Re: Sandboxie usage
I think for the most part you ll find sandboxed programs behaving as they do without Sandboxie. I think thats part of the beauty about Sandboxie and what I like best about it (convenience, usability). Try using your sandboxed programs as you normally use them, as you are used to using them without SBIE.matrixebiz wrote: is there some option to allow the Sandboxed program full system access to behave as though it is installed to the main OS?
