AnyDesk remote desktop - no network connection

Hi,

While TeamViewer works fine in Sandboxie (see my Positive Review), AnyDesk https://anydesk.com/does not. AnyDesk is also a remote desktop solution, the company allegedly run by former TeamViewer engineers.

I tested in Windows 7 Pro and Sandboxie 5.23.3

AnyDesk starts in Sandboxie, all its elements work and settings save, but it says "Could not connect to the AnyDesk network". The connection works fine when run without Sandboxie.

Their KB talks about issues that break SSL http://support.anydesk.com/knowledgebas ... ot-connect
I doubt that's the case here.

Also about Firewall http://support.anydesk.com/knowledgebas ... or-anydesk
But again, since it works outside Sanboxie, we can disregard that.

Any ideas? Why would a network connection not be available from within Sandboxie? Should perhaps some of the Sandboxie executable files be allowed through the Windows firewall?

Hello majokey,

The app crashes immediately when I try to run it Sandboxed so I cannot test the behavior. (Are you using any specific settings for your Sandbox?)
Is there any other security software involved?

Please post the output of Resource Access Monitor so that I can have a look:

Highlight it and click on the "</>" button to format it in the forums.

Also, I noticed (outside Sandboxie) that the app has connection settings (Any Desk ---> Settings---> Connection). See if switching to "Never use a proxy server" , or changing the Local port helps in any way.

Hi Barb,

Thank you for your reply! I did try to change the network settings to No Proxy, but it produced no change. I'm testing it in a fresh new sandbox created by copying the settings from the Default one, which I never changed. I will test it with the Sandboxie Resource Monitor over the weekend when I'm able to close everything and use my colleague's PC as a counterpart.

Two more observations:
Windows 7 Pro and Sandboxie 5.23.3 - I'm able to both just run the downloaded file inside the sandbox and install the program in there. I had to disable the Drop Rights checkbox in order to install. It shows unable to connect to AnyDesk network and while it runs, it crashes upon trying to initiate a connection.

Windows 10 Home w/ latest updates and Sandboxie 5.23.3 as a counterpart - exactly the same, except it doesn't crash when connection is attempted. It just never connects to the AnyDesk network and as a result, to the other machine.

I'll supply more details over the weekend,

Hello majokey,

I'm able to both just run the downloaded file inside the sandbox and install the program in there.

I cannot run the installed version, nor install it inside Sandboxie. The only thing I can do is launch the installer (which opens AnyDesk, but doesn't install it). From that step, I opened a bunch of IPC paths and was able to establish a connection between my host and my VM (both inside the Sandbox).

Here's what I opened:
Configure--Edit configuration
Copy paste this under DefaultBox
OpenIpcPath=anydesk.exe,*ad_connect_queue_*
OpenIpcPath=anydesk.exe,*ad_lsystem*
OpenIpcPath=anydesk.exe,*ad_mailbox*
OpenIpcPath=anydesk.exe,*ad_trace_mtx*
OpenPipePath=anydesk.exe,*\Device\Ide\IdeDeviceP1T0L0-*
Save the file
Configure--->Reload configuration (may need to delete the Sandbox contents as well).
Try establishing a remote session.
You may get COM errors, go ahead and Hide them. (Choose the "Hide" button, don't hit "close" or they will keep coming).

I have not tested this against every scenario so I cannot assure you will be 100% secure, since we are opening a lot of holes to allow Anydesk to communicate. I have also tested it inside the same network only, I don't know this will work for every case.

Well, it took me a lot longer than I anticipated! But below is the record from Resource Access Monitor.

Just in case, here's my config again:

• Win 7 Pro SP1, fully updated
  Sandboxie 5.24 (updated since the start of this thread)
  Only Win Defender as AV
  Intel i7, 16 GB RAM
  AnyDesk connects to its network when started outside Sandboxie
  Doesn't connect when started inside Sandboxie (same PC, no other changes, tens of seconds apart)

STEPS TESTED

• PC rebooted
  Started only Sandboxie Control
  Started Resource Access Monitor
  Started AnyDesk from Tray Icon > Sandbox > Run Any Program (Drop Rights not checked)
  Anydesk immediately show that it can't connect
  Waited a little
  Clicked Copy and Close in Resource Access Monitor
  Exited AnyDesk
  Waited for the program to fully quit in Sandboxie
  Opened Notepad, pasted the Resource Access Monitor content in it, saved
  Started "naked" AnyDesk without Sandboxie, it showed as connected to the AnyDesk network
