How to save some sandboxed without aksing for overwrite...

Post by ZZMajor » Sat Aug 25, 2007 9:06 pm

Hi,

first of all, I would like to say, that sandboxie is one of the best programs I ever installed. No, let's talk about my little problem.
I'm using firefox, for which I've installed some extensions. One of them is Adblock Plus, which canceles some kind of pictures, banners, adware and kind of that.
Adblock Plus downloads some filter rules, every time I get online, and saves them in a specific folder in the firefox profiles. Now, it is no problem to set sandboxie to look for changes in that folder and ask me, after closing firefox, if I want to save these changes. But, for every file, windows asks me for permission to overwrite the existing file, which is very annoying. I have to click to Yes for every single file.
Is ist possible, to tell sandboxie, that it is allowed to overwrite specific files, without prompting the user for that?

Sorry, if my english is too bad, but I'm a German, who learned English in school... :D

In addition to my question above, it would be cool, to tell some folders to sandboxie, which could be saved without starting the quick recovery. In the kind of bookmarks can be handled, but for user configurable folders. For example, i close firefox, and sandboxie automatically stores the browser cache onto the hard disk, without prompting me with the quick recovery and asking me, if iI want to save these files.

First off, dont worry, your English is fine. :wink: Now onto the problem, i have something you can try, open up Sandboxie Control, goto the top and click Configuration -> Edit Configuration then add this line in there:
OpenFilePath=firefox.exe,%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*
Then save the config file (Ctrl + S) and go back to Sandboxie Control, click Configuration and this time click "Reload Configuration". Now when you open FireFox Sandboxed, it will be able to save all its settings and whatnot outside the Sandbox which should help.

P.S Sandboxie is going through a GUI change, and one of the things the dev would like to do is translate Sandboxie into other languages, including German, so in the future you should be able to view Sandboxie in your native language. :wink:

Thanks for your reply.

The last hours I searched a while in the forum and the configs, and I found the function OpenFilePath for myself :D . Sorry, about your time...
And at least I didn't put in the hole folder Profiles, but I just watched, which folders and files where changed the last days, so I manually put them all into the ini, one by one. So, firefox is able to change everything it needs, but no other changes, like installing some kind of adware or toolbar in the profile would have any effect, as I told sandboxie to always clean-up its contents (hope that'll work as I think of it 8) )

So thanks a lot, and, as said above, Sandboxie is one of the coolest tools, I've ever installed. I hope, there will never be any stop of development, and I will try to help others in the forum or somewhere outside, as I think everbody should have installed it... :wink:
