My First try with Sandboxie , seem to have a problem with FF

you say ... you're still going to need to scan it, whether it is a background scanner or on-demand scanner is up to you of course.

how do I scan it while its inside sandboxie before I send it to my HDD ...?

The idea most of the time is to open the pdf file in the sandbox, read it and whatever and mostly just delete it. After reading it, you will know a lot more about that particular file. That does not mean that it is problem free of course. To be as sure as possible, you can scan your drive or if you can scan that individual file with an anti-virus or any scanner you prefer - while it is in the sandbox.

In the hypothetical case with the application: Lets assume worst case scenerio and you have never downloaded anything from this site before and they have a very bad reputation but you really want to see that program. Install it in the sandbox and use it and scan your computer first. If all seems good, recover the startup.exe and delete the box and install it for real.

Here is perhaps your misconception about sandboxie. Any downloaded or temp files are already stored on your HD. But they are stored inside the sandbox location where Sandboxie has control of them. You can navigate your sandbox folder with explorer and find all the temp files, or files you've downloaded. Use your AV scanner to on-demand scan anything you want. If you have a background scanner, it should pick up anything bad that is saved to the sandbox location as well.

Thanks for the reply , if I download an application and its in sandboxie
and I want to scan it for a virus etc before I put it onto my HDD, where do I go
to do the scanning , is it accessed through Sandboxie Control some where, ive
had a look and can't see where the option to scan a file / application stored
in Sandboxie is situated ...? can you please point me in the right direction

Oh I see, the scan is not a part of Sandboxie - It's a virus or other scan of your choice. If you want you can ask here from other members for recco on good scanners that have proven compatable with Sandboxie.
Trust me, I'm not the guy you want on this though. lol

As the others have told you, if you have an A/V program always running on the computer, it will be scanning the files you download even though they wind-up in the sandbox folder. Plus, you can do an on-demand scan of the sandbox folder, in the same way that you can scan any other folder. You just have to know where the sandbox folder is, of course. Do you know?

Have you given any thought yet about creating a Desktop icon to run FirefoxPortable sandboxed, instead of using the right-click Run Sandboxed method?

How about whether to allow the sandboxed program to save things like bookmarks or cookies back to the unsandboxed folder on the flash drive. Without setting up an OpenFilePath statement, or two, any bookmarks, cookies, program option changes your sandboxed program makes will be lost whenever you delete the sandbox contents. If you never want the sandboxed program to save any bookmarks, etc, back to the unsandboxed folders on the flash drive, then you won't need to add any more.

After experimenting with FirefoxPortable on a flash drive, I can tell you that the OpenFilePath statements that I have used in my test result in a noticeable slow-down in program operation. It wouldn't be quite so bad with a hard drive install, due to the difference in access times.

wraithdu I did have a misconception about sandboxie , so have I got this correct now..?

every thing I download is stored in my Sandboxie folder, should I want to scan any of the applications
ive downloaded I would then go to my sandboxie folder , find the temp file / application and do a separate
scan on every thing ive downloaded, if the scans clear, then I can transfer the application to my HDD.


my background scanner should pick up any thing ''bad'' thats been placed in my Sandboxie folder
and I will be alerted , where by I can then do a new separate scan on the suspect application
while its still inside my sandboxie folder.

I f I downloaded a web site, and marked it as a bookmark, would scanning procedure be the same..?

is there any way that Sandboxie could alert me if there's a possible ''danger'' with something thats inside my
sandboxie folder..?

I am not too sure about the ''Automatically delete Contents of Sandboxie '' setting ..?

is there any thing you would consider a must do / check/ set up / Sandboxie for a '' newbie First timer
like me...?
