Sandboxie Error Message/Pop Up Box (Part 2)

Post by ukbobboy » Fri Oct 30, 2015 2:24 pm

Dear Forum Members

Unfortunately, my original thread is now locked and so I cannot add this belated and secondary solution.

Anyway, today I downgraded my Firefox browser from 41.x to 29.x and lo and behold the Sandboxie error pop-up box no longer pops up and the Control window now empties when I close my browser, in other words Sandboxie is now working properly but will not work with the latest version of Firefox (41.x).

The reason I downgraded my FF browser was to regain the facilities I had with FF29 and which somehow got lost or deleted with FF41.x. And after the downgrade, I got my lost facilities back.

I take it that Sanboxie Support will be working on this latest FF problem.

ukbobboy, if you mean the message this thread below is about.

Thats not really a problem unless you get it very often. And this is something all Sandboxie users experience sometimes. Even if you remain using Firefox 29, sooner or later, you will get a could not move the sandbox folder out of the way kind of error, again. When you get the error very often, then you have to try figuring out the program that is locking files inside the sandbox.

I used to experience that error about 3 or 4 times a year when I was using an antivirus. After I stopped using real time antiviruses, getting the error dropped to about none. The few times that I gotten one in the last 5 years, I blame it on me doing too many things at the same time and too fast and usually it has happened when I am reopening my sandboxed Firefox before the sandbox of my previous browsing session got deleted.

But in your case, you need to figure out the program that's locking sandboxed files. It could be the AV or another scanner, Process Explorer might help to see the program that has a lock on them.

I agree with @Bo

And he's correct about all those observations......and anti-virus as usually the root cause for many a odd issue.

FF 41.0.2 works as well as the Beta, 42. (same with Cyberfox)

The only issue we're seeing right now with a browser, is Chrome. That's a whole different animal.

Dear Bo and Craig

I have never seen the Sandboxie pop-up error, and the inability to empty the Control window, when I was using FF29, the problem started when I upgraded to FF41. And as you know, I got rid of NIS22.5 (well, the repair shop did) and I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials ever since.

First, after ditching NIS, I upgrade my FF29 to FF41 but then ran into other difficulties, i.e. the pop-up error box, Sandboxie is now unable to delete it's Control window contents and the lose of some other facilities I have come to take for granted.

After thinking about it, and taking a chance, I decided to try downgrading my FF back to version 29 and when I did I got everything back to what it was before 19th October, i.e. the dreaded NAV/NIS update.

So guys, I'm gonna turn myself back into the ultra cautious, non-experimenting, hardly ever upgrading PC user I used to be before things went dark.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hi Bob, I wrote my reply to make you aware that the delete message is not that rare. And so you know what usually is the cause. I think is a good idea you switched to MSE.

If you want to solve the mystery, you can use Process Explorer or one of the many other tools that will tell you which process has files locked. It is not that hard to do.

In some OSes, if you have c:\sandbox open in an explorer window, that will lock the folder.
