Blue Screen

I upgraded to version 3.00, and when I clicked on "finish" in the installation wizard, I got a BSOD. (stop error)
I also noticed the tray icon is an odd color. (it is an orange-ish color, not the typical yellow)
I uninstalled, then reinstalled sandboxie (3 times) but I still get the BSOD every time the "core components" start up.
For now I have gone back to 2.86.
Any ideas what the problem may be?
I can give you data to help troubleshoot the problem, but you will have to leave detailed instructions on what data you need and how to collect it, in your follow up post.

Thanks,
Ron

I can confirm the same problem under WinXP Pro Sp-2 - fully patched. I disabled startup of the core component and all is well (I was experiencing BSOD on boot with an 0x0000008E error).

Please check C:\WINDOWS\MINIDUMP for any *.dmp files you can send to me or upload somewhere.
That folder is C:\WINNT\MINIDUMP on Windows 2000.

If you have another security software that you suspect may be incompatible in Sandboxie causing this crash, please suggest which one and I will try to install it.

Me:
I was running XP Pro SP2, fully updated too. (forgot to mention that before)
I found no dump files in the specified directories.
I only found 5 total on my whole machine. (4 for ZA and 1 for AVG)

Me:
AVG, ZoneAlarm, Windows Defender, and Wormguard.
I have several other security related programs, but those are the only ones that have active protection running.

I did fix the problem, so I can no longer replicate it, and, I cheated (repair install of windows) so I have no info on exactly where the problem was either.
I suspect maybe a windows update was responsible, but after doing the repair install of XP, I can no longer get windows updates. Everything else is perfect now, but no updates. Not from windows update site, or through automatic updates.

I will update you if anything changes.

I'll bet Darwin has System Mechanic.

Hey Darwin, do you have System Mechanic installed?
If so, try removing it, and see if that fixes your problem.

Ok, I was wrong about system mechanic.

The problem is with one of the following windows updates.
KB927891
KB925720
KB873339
KB930916
KB936357

KB927891 -- I have that
KB925720 -- don't have
KB873339 -- I have that
KB930916 -- I have that
KB936357 -- don't have

KB925720 is related to version 3 of the .Net platform and contains only some DLLs so is not likely to cause BSODs

But KB936357 updates processor microcode on Intel processors through a driver, so this has more potential for a BSOD-producing conflict. I don't have any Intel processors but I will try to apply this update and see if it breaks anything.

Can you too reinstall just this one KB936357 and see if the BSODs return?

I installed KB936357 and everything is still good. But that may be because I don't have an Intel CPU. If you re-apply KB936357 and you experience BSOD as soon as Sandboxie starts, please make sure a minidump is created, and send it to me, and I will try to figure out what's wrong.

KB936357 was the problem.
I uninstalled it and all is well now.
I like Sandboxie, more than I like KB936357, so my decision was easy.

Hi tzuk,

I had about 7 or 8 BSOD's and the darker color Sandboxie tray icon after I installed Spy Sweeper 5.5.1.3356 by WebRoot. The BSOD's occurred whenever I tried to start Firefox sandboxed. I have now uninstalled Spy Sweeper and there are no more problems. I would rather this conflict did not exist, because I am a paying subscriber to Spy Sweeper.

Sorry, I deleted all the .dmp files.

I never had conflict problems between these 2 programs before Sandboxie 3.00.04 and Spy Sweeper 5.5.x.
