Problem with Firefox 57 with localhost and other sites

Post by cocoon » Tue Nov 21, 2017 9:23 am

I recently installed Firefox 57.

My previous browser was Opera and I therefore added Firefox in the sandbox that I use for web browsing with Opera.

In a nutshell, sandboxed Firefox doesn't open certain pages including http://mozillazine.org. Moreover it doesn't open the web interface of a program that I sometimes use, which should normally be shown in the web browser by entering http://localhost:6789.

There must be something wrong with my web browsing sandbox (or specifically settings related to Firefox) because Firefox and the localhost entry actually do work if I run them in a clean Default sandbox. Is there a solution other than having to start a new sandbox from scratch? I would rather not have to duplicate all the settings in my existing sandbox to another one!

Hello cocoon,

I am able to access http://mozillazine.org/ without any issues. What happens when you try to access it? are there any error messages? What's the exact issue?

Can you please apply these steps, and the re-try?
viewtopic.php?p=130456#p130456

Have you deleted the contents of your Sandbox and re-tried?

If all fails, please post a copy of your Sandboxie Configuration so that I can have a look:
Configure--> Edit Configuration
Copy/paste the contents in your response
Highlight the contents and use the "</>" button in the forum to format them.

Regards,
Barb.-

Currently I have two sessions of Firefox open. One is with the problem that I mentioned and the other one is using the new sandbox that I recently created. The problematic session now does open mozzillazine.org (!), but does not open the web page when I enter the localhost entry. The new sandbox Firefox instance works fine with both examples.

The error I see is

Code: Select all

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:6789.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I think that after all I'll just move over to the new sandbox and delete the old one. However, if you consider it useful, here's the configuration information.

EDIT: All above has to be ignored! The problem appears with the new sandbox as well. :( :(
EDIT 2: It's becoming more confusing. I reduced the security.sandbox.content.level to 2 and I deleted the original problematic sandbox. I have one sandbox called Banking. I do not run it normally. Upon starting Firefox I received certain errors: SBIE 1308 about dllhost.exe, followed by SBIE 2222, and SBIE 2314. The problems that I mentioned earlier continue.

Hello cocoon,

Do the sites work outside Sandboxie?
Do they work inside other Sandboxed browsers?
Did you delete the contents of your Sandbox prior to launching Firefox?
Do you have any addons that might be blocking non https sites? (or any addons installed in general?)

Your Banking Sandbox seems to have restrictions, thus you are getting messages until you allow internet access as needed.

Please test in a new Sandbox with default settings, do not copy them from a previous Sandbox.
Sanbox--> Create new Sandbox
Copy settings from existing sandbox: none

If all fails, try disabling your antivirus/firewall and see if that makes a difference.

Barb.-

Thank you Barb.

To begin with let me apologize for the continuous postings-edits. I was writing things down as they occurred.
The sites do work outside the sandbox. So does the localhost entry.
They also work in sandboxed Opera.
I made sure that I deleted the contents of my Firefox sandbox before launching it.
I don't have any blocking addons of the sort you describe. I do have other addons including uBlock origin and HTTPS Everywhere. I mention these as they may be of special interest.

What I have done since my last posting is to delete the Banking sandbox and Firefox now seems[/] to be working fine. I suggest that I give it some time to test it as is, before I do anything else. That at least will give you some (needed) quiet from my pestering! If a problem arises again, I'll go through your suggestions.

Hello cocoon,

I'll wait for your update. It could have been a combination of settings + corrupted Sandbox (not the usual issue, but it may happen).
Let's see how it goes.

If the issue comes back, please create a new Firefox profile without extensions and re-test that way (be sure to use a newly created Sandbox).

Regards,
Barb.-
