Question about useing SDelete with Sandbox

Post by SandinShoes » Fri Nov 13, 2009 4:07 pm

How long does it normally take to delete the sandbox using the preset delete command of SDelete. I'm just wondering since I've never used something like SDelete an was thinking of using it for sandboxie.

It depends on things like: how much data is in the sandbox, and that could depend on how long you were browsing the Internet (large cache of temporary files).
Also, processor speed would be a consideration.
Having said that, the SDelete program (or Eraserl) works in the background. You aren't just sitting around waiting for it to finish - unless you're waiting for it to finish before shutting down the computer.
After a short session with Firefox, SDelete will typically take 6-12 seconds on my computer.

Thanks for the reply, I tested SDelete out after reading your reply. A short time browsing the internet with firefox took around the same time you mentioned it did for you, thanks again for helping.

I forgot to mention that you can change the default Sdelete command, right in the box that shows in Sandbox Settings > Delete > Command.
If you change the line from
...\sdelete.exe" -p 3 -s -q "%SANDBOX%"
to
...\sdelete.exe" -p 1 -s -q "%SANDBOX%"
the files in the sandbox will be over-witten only one time, instead of 3 times, speeding things up.
That's enough to shred the files, and that's all that is really needed unless you have real secrets to keep.

Thanks for mentioning that, I'll switch it to the - p 1 since that's all I really need.
