FF only runs older ver under SB

Post by Mac291 » Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:34 am

I've read re: Firefox ver 27 not running at all under SB. My FF ver 38.0.5 will run, but under SB it always tries to update, then error 'update could not be installed, be sure no other copies of FF are running, try again'.

Running XP ver 2002 SP3, FF ver 38.0.5 and SB ver 4.18 (32b). Tried a few things from a 15 page post re: FF ver 27 not run under SB: edit .ini file, compatibility mode & disable visual themes in the shortcut. Don't understand it, shortcut points to C:\Program Files\SandBoxie\Start.exe default browser. Should start my current version. Haven't tried 'always run SBxed'.

It's not a dealbreaker, but would anyone know a solution so SB will run current version of FF? I don't see anything to check under SB Settings>applications>web browser>firefox.

Thank you,

Mac

Hi Mac291, the first thing I think you should do is disable automatic updates for Firefox in Firefox Tools>Options>Advanced>Update. Select Never check for update. Do this out of the sandbox. Then, after deleting the sandbox manually, see if Firefox runs well sandboxed afterward.

One of my computers is an XP, Firefox 38.0.5 runs great under Sandboxie 4.18 or latest beta 4.19.3. Firefox should run well sandboxed in yours too. Good luck.

Bo.elam: Thanks. Man that one stumped me. Didn't even think about deleting the sandbox. Worked like a charm.

Thank you!

BTW, for anyone contemplating the 'add a profile' fix using a 2nd shortcut, it doesn't work. Changed other shortcut's target to "C:\Program Files\SandBoxie\Start.exe" "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p then create 2nd profile, remove the ' -p ' and a restart only gave me a SB error 'Could not invoke program: then the 2nd half of the path above, then System Error Code. 'The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.' (123)
