How Secure is Sandboxy? Does it shred stuff or merely delete

Post by D » Thu Apr 12, 2007 1:25 pm

I know that just about everything that has been deleted from a hard-drive (or any other sort of drive) can be recoverred, so long as one has the appropriate tools. To make deleted stuff more secure, I use a file shredder (comes with my McAfee security tools) that over-writes deleted data a number of times. When one uses "Delete Contents" (of the Sandbox) in Sandboxie does any similar type of "shredding" take place? And, if not, does that mean that some sort of malicious malware might still be able to do its thing even after having deleted the sandbox?

alright this has been brought up in the past and the answers still the same, first ill answer your second question, if you delete the sandbox using sandboxie, then any malware, viruses, trojans. etc WILL be gone, its not like they will re-emerge in the sandbox later on and take over your pc, now to answer your first question, no it doesnt shred the files, it just deletes the files, BUT you can shred the files yourself, just right click sandboxie tray icon, goto Contents of Sandbox, then hit explore contents, now just go up one directory, and you should a folder named DefaultBox, well thats the sandbox, so just right click the folder and hit shred, (or however Mcafee's shredder works) now maybe in the future tzuk will incorporate a shredder into the program that automatically shreds the content of the sandbox, but until then you'll have to do it yourself. :?

Thanks for that. Sorry if this has been asked and responded to before. I've just found out about the program and this is a question that came to mind.

There is also SecureDeleteSandbox to plug your favorite third-party shredder into the delete-contents-of-sandbox process.
