Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after update
I have a problem with Microsoft Office after update: I cannot start any ooffice program snadboxed. It stops loading at startscreen. For Outlook the window for entering the pawword appears, but I cannot enter anything nor cancel.
I had this problem in july and now again in august with another Microsoft-Patch.
I figured out, that these updates cause the Problem:
KB3115427
August 9, 2016
Security update for Office 2013
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3115427
and
KB3115255
July 5, 2016
Update for Microsoft Office 2013
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3115255
Windows 8.1 x64
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013, 32-Bit-Edition, German
Tested with Sandboxie 4.20, 5.12, 5.13.4

Is this the click to run version of Office 2013? You can determine that here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... 64733.aspx Some versions were. If that is the case, make sure you are running the paid version of SBIE. Otherwise, it will not function in the shareware version. For Outlook the window for entering the pawword appears, but I cannot enter anything nor cancel
Password for email accounts? Make sure those are in place before you open in the Sandbox. Outlook should be configured and set up outside of the Sandbox.
Update the suite outside of the sandbox, the make sure that sandbox content is removed, and then try again.
Nothing on the surface of those KB updates would impact SBIE. But we're looking at it.

We are seeing some issues with the most recent Office KB from July / August. Office 2013 will just hang. At this time, there is not ETA on a fix. If you remove the KB's, Office functions in SBIE:
KB3115427
August 9, 2016
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3115427
and
KB3115255
July 5, 2016

KB3115427
August 9, 2016

and

Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
No, it is NOT the click to run version of office.
I am running the paid version of SBIE.
No, not Password for email accounts, Password for opening the PST-file. I updated Office using Windows Update outside of the sandbox and of corse all sandbox content was removed bevore trying again.
Yes, if I remove the KB's, Office functions in SBIE and this is no problem with KB3115255, I don't need it. But KB3115427 is a Security update!

Well, the only way at the moment is to remove that KB. Sorry. MS puts security updates out all the time. Review the KB, if you feel you need that installed and updated, by all means. Otherwise, you'll have to stand by to when and if we have a fix. It's not so simple.

As a temporary workaround, try adding the following line to your sandboxie.ini file:
BoxNameTitle=-
BoxNameTitle=-

Hi Curt,
Changing the BoxNameTitle indeed allows (at least) Outlook to actually start in a sandbox. However, shortly after it starts, Sandboxie now gives the following error quite a few times in a row:
SBIE2314 Cancelling process SandboxieBITS.exe [7884 / 9]
I however saw that beta version 5.13.3 fixes this error?

Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
work-around does not work...
The work-around lets you start outlook...
But after about 60 - 120 secs, it freezes such that you can't close the window, except by using task manager [end task], or sandboxie [terminate programs]
Very frustrated by this, as it was the main reason for purchasing sandboxie
Windows 10 x64
Sandboxie 5.12
office 2016 C2R
Also seperately: where is everyone getting the 5.13 beta version of sandboxie from please?

Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
Further to my previous post: I can now confirm that in Windows 10 x64, with Sandboxie version 5.12… (and F-SecureSAFE)
With the current workaround – Sometimes sending and receiving will cause a freeze of Outlook – but nothing appears to get lost fortunately...
Another significant thing to remember – is to make sure that Outlook is opening to one of your Inboxes, and not opening to the "OutlookToday page".
I have found that if you have Outlook set to open to the "Outlook Today page" – Outlook will freeze on trying to open in a sandbox.
The answer is simple though: just take computer off-line, open Outlook outside of a sandbox, and set Outlook (Advanced options) to open to one of your inboxes on startup, instead of the default "Outlook Today page"...
After doing this, you will find that with the workaround given, it is now possible to use Outlook in a sandbox again!
Big smile!

Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
I can confirm that it is fixed in version 5.14.
Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
It's true that the software will start but if you use the outlook calender event reminder, the popup window is empty, can't be closed and hinders outlook to work properly. Though it's not fixed at all.I can confirm that it is fixed in version 5.14.
The next thing is, that now the settings to migrate large files doesn't do anything at all. Even if you set maximum filesize to i.e. 200GB it still says that the files are to large to migrate and if you double-click the message it only increases size by 2 KB.
Re: Microsoft Office 2013 do not start in Sandbox after upda
Try allowing direct file access to the file that's mentioned in Sandboxie message 2102. I never used Outlook but if it is the pst file that is mentioned in the SBIE message, thats the file you need to allow direct access to.Needaname wrote:The next thing is, that now the settings to migrate large files doesn't do anything at all. Thanks! I'll try that.Try allowing direct file access to the file that's mentioned in Sandboxie message 2102. I never used Outlook but if it is the pst file that is mentioned in the SBIE message, thats the file you need to allow direct access to.
