Some installers seem to fail
Don't know what is causing this, but you can try if this is a problem for you as well.
Go to: https://www.lightwave3d.com/try_lightwave (It is a trial, but it is not so much the software, as I think it is a problem with the installer)
and download 64bit version (because that is the version of Windows I have. Windows 10 pro x64 to be more precise)
Then when trying to install, the installer starts and the window is small & completely blank. I have seen this happen before with another installer (in windows 10) I don't remember now.
So I am wondering if this is actually a bug?
Maybe it is because it is Windows 10 I am using? Because I don't remember seeing this with earlier Windows versions.

Re: Some installers seem to fail
Are you trying to install this inside a sandbox???
What if you install on your host (not in a sandbox) and then right click "run as sandboxed"

Re: Some installers seem to fail
That works... however..
I usually try programs out first in Sandboxie, to see if things get messed up. Before installing anything in the system.
Not that I distrust this particular software though. It is just an example where I *know* the installer fails every time.
But if you feel this is OK, and as it should be.. then I suppose there is nothing to do about it.

Re: Some installers seem to fail
Not all software likes to be installed in a Isolated environment, for various reasons, they can fail.
With that said, I am getting the same results.

An imaging program like Macrium Reflect would better serve this purpose. Even though my c: drive is 150gb of stuff, I can take an incremental in about 2 minutes. If I don't like what I installed I can restore in about the same time. Much cleaner, and it was designed for this. Sandboxie really isn'tMithril wrote:That works... however..

Re: Some installers seem to fail
Thanks Peter (never heard about that software ) but I rather not mess with restoring things.
@Craig, yeah I know. But this kind of failure is so rare I have only seen it twice. This program, and another I can't remember any more. Some months ago.
Anyway, thought it could be of interest. Could be worth finding out why it fails.
In any case, I installed it normally. Like I said, I don't distrust this particular software.

Re: Some installers seem to fail
Agreed. I did a procmon on the installer out of curiosity to see what may be going on.
Re: Some installers seem to fail
Just a short info, and I guess you already know.. but still. I tested this on an earlier version of windows (and installer works on windows 8.1) so it seems that the problem is specific to Windows 10. However, like I said, I think you already have a pretty good idea as to why it happens. But I think you may have to look into this one.

Windows 10 does everything differently. It's much more secured, much more picky.Mithril wrote:Just a short info, and I guess you already know.. but still.
