64-bit Windows 8 and Sandboxie

Post by jw72253 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 1:27 am

Are there any bugs or other persistent issues in the use of Sandboxie on 64-bit Windows 8 Pro with 64-bit Internet Explorer 10? I would like to use Sandboxie with it if possible. Thanks. 8)

I think sandboxie does not protect fully win 8 64bit.

Hi:

It was mentioned here that 64bit sandboxie for win 8 has short coming in protection and maybe can be dealt in the future?
I too am waiting for the 64bit full compatibility and support.

Even now on another system running 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit IE 9, I have been using 64-bit Sandboxie and it too was slated as "experimental", but I have yet to encounter any noticeable issues while using it, at least nothing I would consider attributible to the 64-bit aspect of the browser. I am not sure what all the "experimental" aspect of it might entail, such as the possibility of reduced protection in dropping rights or some such thing, I do know that the files were getting cleaned completely during shutdowns. I am not sure how one might go about testing the integrity of the program in getting all browser files put into the sandbox as they should be, but I would be interested in finding some way of monitoring it.

I did not see what dialogue you referred to exactly regarding the shortcomings. Did what you read indicate something about the program being even less effective than the so-called experimental status for 64-bit IE 9 in Win 7, or was it merely equivalent in its tenor of caution? And what was said, if anything, about Sandboxie's effectiveness in Windows 8 with the 32-bit version of IE 10? I haven't seen here anything related to the testing of the program in Win 8 with IE 10. Have you?

Also, I was wondering whether there is any way that Sandboxie could end up damaging the files of a system under any circumstances?

Having gotten little feedback to this query, I looked over the version history and some other documentation, I am under the impression that Internet Explorer 10 is not supported since it is not mentioned, for example, in the change log. As a matter of fact, I also think that the FAQ is way out-dated because in it Windows 7 is not even mentioned as a compatible OS! Here is what I saw:

"What are the requirements to run Sandboxie?

Sandboxie works on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003. There is some support for older 64-bit versions of Windows: see the download page."

You know the name Sandboxie came from the combination of sandbox+IE, but only enough, there is no mention of Internet Explorer 10 in the documentation. I saw one short reference to Windows 8 RTM compatibility, but that was it.
