Automatically run sandboxie installed programs

Post by nick » Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:40 am

I believe it would be very helpfull if there was an option in the registered sandboxie that would allow the execution of a file type with a program installed in a speciffic sandbox. For example if i have installed a program e.g. acrobat reader only in a sandbox, i could choose in xp to open pdf files with sandboxie.exe and from sandbox control would choose to run pdf files from the specific sandbox. In that way, without having acrobat reader installed outside of sandboxie i would be able with double clicking a pdf file to read it sandboxied.
Of course in case of acrobat reader this may not be important (it can be installed normally and run sandboxied), but in cases of programs that might install suspicious drivers a utility like the one described above could be quiet helpful.

Thanks!

Doesn't it already act this way? I never tried it, but what if you set the reader as the default opener in Folder Options (you probably will have to show Windows the path - since it is in the sandbox).

Tip; I trialed Adobe Reader 9.0 (free) and looked all around for an independent standalone installer. But all I could find were installers that also forced you to install Adobe Air (whatever that is) and Adobe Acrobat. Well if you install it first in a sandbox and then look in the sandboxed folders for a folder called Setup Files you will find an Acroread.Msi which gives you just the pure install of the reader only, without the extra programs. Then you can extract that out of the sandbox (the whole Setup folder - not just the msi) and delete that sandbox and then install it again, either sandboxed or regular. :D

:? I don't understand. I'm not quite sure what you want to do  Must be my lack of sleep

Umm, have you tried setting Adobe Reader to be forced to open in a sandbox?

Is this what you're after?

If you're just after viewing PDF files, I'd recommend Foxit Reader. If you download the zip package - no installation is required, just unzip and you're ready to go :D

Damn right, I second that!
One executable, 1Mb, no install needed! 8)
