SBIE 1408 Unknown User Error for SID: S-1-5-21-1616980848-..

Post by Silver0066 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 5:53 pm

I just installed v3.00 over 2.94.25 and now I get the above error when opening Sandboxie Control.

Using Search I only found some answers for v2.85.

When I run "net user" I get the following:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Bill>Net user

User accounts for \\OLDDELL

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator ASPNET Bill
Guest HelpAssistant SUPPORT_388945a0
The command completed successfully.

Can you give me any help?

Do you get the error just once?

I fixed the problem by using WinPatrol to delay the start of Control.exe by 1 minute.

Silver0066:

Glad you posted this. I had been getting a similar error on a semi-regular basis with the version 2.94 betas:

MESSAGE FROM SANDBOXIE DRIVER

SBIE1408 Unknown user name for SID:S-1-5-21-
1501864095-2824099057-3824174919-1006

Clicking OK on the above would bring up a second box:

SANDBOXIE CONTROL

Quick Recovery: Could not determine the path of the sandbox folder

I would click OK on that box and then proceed to use sandboxie, and sandboxie would function normally. It was like sandboxie could not initially find the above information, and hence generated the above message boxes, but shortly thereafter did find the info as evidenced by the fact that it functioned normally.

This has happened to me only once with version 3.00 and I believe that it occurred early in the boot process. Since your posting, I have been watching for the sandboxie "pizza" icon to appear and (if my memory is correct), it does so much later in the boot process as compared to the version 2.94 betas. Thus your delaying the start of control.exe as a solution mirrors my experience.

Regards,
Mike

Mike,

That is the same experience that I had. Sandboxie would work okay after you gave it some time, but the error messages were disconcerting.

By the way, I have reduced the delay time to 30 seconds from 1 minute, and I still do not get the error messages.

Regards,

Silver

This version was supposed to be fixed by version 3.00.02. Are you still seeing this problem after upgrading to 3.00.02 or did you stay with an earlier version?

I would be happy to test this version, but I see no announcement of it anywhere. The 3.0 download is dated 7/10.

What is the link?

It's the same link, with the same date, in the same place, but it downloads a newer version. :)
