Cannot access "Windows Installer Service"

Post by Guest » Thu Jul 19, 2007 4:12 pm

I'm trying to install PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra in a sandbox, but the setup program always fails with the error message that it can't access the Windows Installer Service. I've tried it with v2.86 where I can start the installer service in the sandbox manually and this works (however the installation is extremely slow).

What's the problem with V3 and why was the option to start the installer service removed???

Regards!

It was removed because you no longer need to manually sandbox it, if a program (that your running sandboxed) requests windows installer, then it is automatically started sandboxed. Now i dont know what the problem is, but another person had a problem getting winzip to work sandboxed because it would give a "msi version" error when he tried to run it (which i was able to confirm), so something "MSI" related must've broke in v3, although how or what is beyond me. :?

Obviously, the automatic sandboxing of MSI doesn't work in V3, so the option to manually start it should be restored.

So to the developers: please put the manual MSI sandboxing back in the program, because the automatic support does NOT work!

Can you give me a link to something you're trying to install, and doesn't work?

"PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra" - unfortunately, there's no demo of this version available for download. Maybe the problem also occurs with the downloadable version: http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download ... 1_ENU.html

So what's the status of this? Sandboxie doesn't automatically start the installer service! Can this not be fixed? If not, why don't you include the manual start method again?

Sorry, haven't looked into it yet. Will soon. In the mean time, you can work around this by running some other installer, one that does cause the Windows Installer to start sandboxed. But I will try that PowerDVD demo.

In version 3.00.06 you still get the error message, but as soon as you click OK, the Windows Installer service comes up and the installation continues.

Thanks, I will try that! I've installed v3.00.06 and when I select "Run sandboxed - Any Program", the browse dialog comes up but at the same time an error message:

"SBIE2320 Could not disable Windows Explorer as desktop process: [33 / C0000034]"

I can close this, but it keeps reappearing - all the time this same message. What's the problem? Previous versions didn't do this.

I can't think of any change that I made, that should trigger this error. Did you make some other changes in your computer or is this absolutely a .05 -> .06 issue?

Technically speaking, you found a different problem. The original problem in this topic was that the Windows Installer service doesn't start, your problem is that it starts and fails. :)

Resolved in version 3.00.07:
