Reminder for the program started outside Sandboxie?

Post by firebug » Fri Feb 24, 2017 5:48 am

I know tzuk will not do this feature, I'm just asking if there are other tools/ways can do this reminder?

The reason why I ask this, is that, yesterday I ran SpotifySetup.exe IN Sandboxie. After that I mistakenly thought Spotify.exe had been installed IN Sandboxie. So I started it, but found Spotify.exe ran OUTSIDE Sandboxie.
Of course, this is not Sandboxie's fault, because I set C:\Users\Username to OpenPipePath, and Spotify.exe was installed there by default.

I just ask, is there any tools or ways, by which, when I manually start an exe from explorer.exe process, and it runs OUTSIDE sandbox, a prompt box will pop out, reminding me this situation?

If you recommend HIPS, can you give the specific HIPS name, because I Googled, most HIPS are too large and heavy for this usage, which have so many registry/file proteciton.
I just want such a small and tiny reminder.

Thanks.

I just figured out the difference between Direct Access and Full Access.
If I only set C:\Users\Username in Direct Access, not Full Access, in the example above, Spotify.exe will still be installed in the SBIE. Right?
If so, for the situation above, problem is solved.

However, I'm still curious, is there any tool/method to remind me, when explorer.exe call a process and run it outside SBIE?
Just reminder, or block first and then reminder, both are OK. :D

Hello firebug,

What are you OS, Antivirus and SBIE versions?
Can you provide repro steps explaining how did you install the application and how did you run it afterwards?

Some programs will allow you to install them directly inside the Sandbox.
If you have done that (by running the installer Sandboxed), then you can create a shortcut to launch the Sandboxed installed application on your Desktop , so you that you can test it.
(Sbie Control--> Configure---> Windows Shell Integration
Click on "Add Shortcut icons", use the menu to navigate to your Sandbox and select the desired application).

As for reminders, here's what you can use:
https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?SBIE1301

Anything that you do not specifically set up in the Sandbox will not show up in it. You can use something like process explorer to monitor what runs on your computer, but that is not Sandboxie related.

Regards,
Barb.-
