Sandboxie with Avira AV to combat Java

Post by boxjava » Fri Dec 07, 2012 12:13 am

Hello people,

I have Avira free AV (no web protection enabled ) , plus Rapport, with the odd scan of Maleware Bytes.

I'm hoping Sandboxie can protect me from Java software issues that kept coming back. Is sandboxie compatable with the above (apart from Rapport of course) and can i just disable Rapport when i use SB or should i remove it ?

Should i install and enable Sandboxie before i reinstall Java (oracle) ?

Any settings directions much appreciated ?

Thanks alot.

I don't think you need to do anything about Rapport/Sandboxie. You just won't have Rapport when running under Sandboxie. Aside from that I think I would say just install Sandboxie and give it a spin.

There are a number of programs that can list the probable cause of the blue screen.
One of them is Nirsoft's Blue Screen View
http://nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

No install required. Just run the executable BlueScreenView.exe
Look for the "Caused by ..." column.

Guest10,

Thanks alot . I now have the Bluescreenview panel in from of me showing the 2 dump files on the top and the 5 files, highlighted in pink below.

On double clicking one of the 2 dump files , on ''caused by driver'' i have- igdkmd32.sys

After doing a google search i found this about it - ''igdkmd.sys is the Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver''

How should i transfer the info needed (?) onto here so somebody smart can check it out ?

My laptop in an Acer aspire one. I have had it from new, less than a year, but never installed any drivers for it.

Thanks for any help.

I would have the current Intel drivers checked, to see if there's any updates.

Guest10,

Thanks a million for the help.

I noticed it says ''for HP" on that drive updates site.

''Automatically identify and download official HP driver updates''

Will that identify any updates/work ok on my Acer ?

Thanks

Just gone through the Intel update on that site and it says i have 3 driver problems that need to be fixed and it is highly recommended that i register driver manager to automatically fix all 3 of these problems.

So go ahead with that then ?

Because that site offers generic drivers you might want to go to Acer support, to see if they have any customized drivers for your Acer computer. I don't have a link for that.

Hoping someone can help me get to the bottom of this. Someone told me its unlikely this is the issue. I'm in SE Asia and the warranty has ended.

I found the ''caused by driver'' - igdkmd32.sys file is in the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 series driver in device manager.

Driver date 12/14/2011
Driver version 8.14.8.1064

Theres 2 VGA Drivers available for my Acer Aspire One AOD270 both dated early 2012 ;

Can i do any damage by installing the wrong one ?

Thanks for any help

It sounds like it might be related to this problem report here:

http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=12829

I'm sorry to have to say that we couldn't arrive at a proper solution in that case.

Hello, thanks for the help. Yes i'd say its likely just my system not being compatible.

Damn shame that.

Just to be clear, for uninstalling Sandboxie cleanly i can just do the normal Control panel/uninstall route ?

I noticed that under Sandboxie in ''All programs'', via Start menu theres an ''Uninstall sandboxie'' link.

Thanks again.

You can uninstall either way. I suggest that you delete the contents of your sandbox (in Sandboxie Control) before you start the uninstall.
