Moving things outside of the sandbox.

Post by LX7 » Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:29 pm

Hi, was wondering why if taking an app outside of the sandbox does it still run inside it?
If I want to run a game, which creates some junk files, but then I move that to a new location outside of the sandbox (it won't launch inside it) it still loads in the sandbox, even if I delete its contents.

It could be because you have the sandbox set to force a program, eg game.exe
It could also be a forced folder 'bug' that is related more to how windows works. Read more on that one here: http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 11&t=21319
If it's the first, remove the name from the forced program list. If it's the second, a reboot after cutting and pasting the folder that was previously forced (or a sub directory of a forced folder) should fix it and allow you to run it outside of sandboxie.

Umhum... that seems to be related, except what's a forced folder? All I did was install the game inside the Sandbox, so from outsite, it'd right click setup exe and send it to Default Sanbox. I'd let it install and test. If it wouldn't start I would take a look at what dirt it would put out. Some just make a save game and settings in docs, and nothing else. In this case I'd take it outside of the sandbox and see if it starts unboxed. There were not forced apps or folders involved, just isolated folder structure and path of Sandboxie's Default Sandbox and unisolated normal path. Other than that no settings were changed. Still, the app shows in Sandboxie's CPL app as running under Default Sandbox and disabling the service completely prohibits the main game app from running. If by Forced Folder you mean the isolated Default Sandbox, then yes, that's the case.

Is there no other fix than a complete restart?

Your situation sounds a bit different but *if* it's related the bug discovered with the forced folder which seems to be due to the way Windows handles cut and pasted folders a reboot would be the easiest way to solve the issue. If a reboot doesn't help then there is likely some rule in SBIE at play. I've never experienced any problems with it sandboxing anything it wasn't supposed to but if a reboot doesn't fix it (if its related to cut and paste that'd be the way to fix it) maybe we can figure it out (or at least try to troubleshoot) w a little more info... First step however will be a reboot to ensure that issue is ruled out. Does the game start normally after you move it and reboot?

Yes, it appears to be the forced folder bug. If I don't move the folder, but its contents the issue doesn't happen... or it would if prob. the game exe would be in a subfolder, didn't had time to test but not moving the folder, instead moving its contents did solved it. Sure, restarting does solve it too but it's tedious.
