Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
@Xy667, Um, the Windows update did break SBIE. However, we posted a workaround and a new beta within hours. Beta 5.05.2 Addresses that. We're 2 releases past that with 5.06 RC.
The announcement addresses particular issues since Oct 15th.
I would advise your to upgrade. As for FF errors downloading, we are not aware of what you're reporting and we have had no other instances. Basic troubleshooting would be disable extensions. Disable any antivirus. Are you running AV?

Did you read my previous posts?
I have upgraded Sandboxie to 5.06 on the weekend. This hasn't helped with my downloading issue with Firefox (or with the strange look of the Firefox minimise/maximise/close buttons when sandboxed). If you read my previous posts you'll see that I experience this download problem even with a fresh new Firefox profile with NO addons/extensions/themes. The minimise/maximise/close buttons only look strange when Firefox is run in the sandbox (see earlier post for image examples).
To answer your question about AV: No, I do not run any anti virus. I do run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Anti-Exploit though.
Joe is also experiencing this issue so hopefully you can help us to fix this annoything problem!
Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
@xy667
Can you try it w/o restrictions or resource modification or basically thru default sandbox?!

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Hi xy667, you already know the minimize maximize issue is due to a conflict between Sandboxie and the Firefox theme you are using, I think the solution for that is not using that theme. Regarding the downloading program, I know you tried the new sandbox with the new Firefox profile but, did you try downloading to a different folder than your current Downloads folder and without applying direct file access to it? I would try that.xy667 wrote: I have upgraded Sandboxie to 5.06 on the weekend. I have tried a few other themes and they all seem to make the buttons look strange. Are you saying this is an issue that can't/won't be fixed? I'm not too fussed about this issue but it looks ugly!bo.elam wrote:Hi xy667, you already know the minimize maximize issue is due to a conflict between Sandboxie and the Firefox theme you are using, I think the solution for that is not using that theme. I have also tried 9 downloads with this new sandbox and the browser hasn't become unresponsive (yet) but I'll need to test it further as this issue is intermittent. I also tried adding the download folder to the Direct Access resource access and was also able to download these 9 files again without the browser becoming unresponsive (this is how I have it set currently). I think its too early to tell if this new sandbox has done the trick but I have now tried downloading into the sandbox and using the direct access to the download folder and browser still hasn't become unresponsive.
Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Since very few are having this freezing issue - I reverted back to Sbie 5.06 and boom the freezing returns. Thinking whatever the cause is, it must be something quite out of the way. One thing is that recently I switched DNS servers to Alternate DNS - http://www.alternate-dns.com/index.html - which absolutely does the job as far as ad-blocking goes. Maybe some downloads have some kind of hidden tracker that a website uses and the DNS server is tying that up? Or maybe another reason involving DNS? The freezing is quite consistent if anyone cares to test.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
I've been having this problem too. Firefox 41.0.2, Sbie 5.06, Win 8.1 x64. I've tried reinstalling Firefox and running a blank profile in a default sandbox with no restrictions but it doesn't help. I even switched AV because I thought it was that.
The first thing I noticed was the Firefox download icon was buggy when run under Sbie after a Firefox update, 41.0.1 I think it was. Then I began experiencing the freezing issue just as the downloads finish.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
@JayT @XY667
I just tested FF (41.0.2 & Beta 42.0) in 8.1/64 and 10/64 again to confirm a few things.
1 FF is loading w/o issues.
2. Downloads are functioning as usual, w/ SBIE offering download recovery
3. As for the "strange" look to icons, that is most likely limited to the extension. I've attached a screen shot of the "dark theme" I have preset in 8.1/64 using FF Beta 42.0
No A/V (other than Defender) & SBIE 5.06.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Hi Craig
I find this issue intermittent which is frustrating. Having said that I am still having Firefox freeze on me when downloads try to complete. I appreciate you testing. I run no AV at all so I know for sure that its not this. A clean Firefox profile and/or new Sandboxie sandbox doesn't seem to help either. I'll do some more testing this weekend but I'm not sure what more I can do.
As for the strange look of the icons, can you try this theme please to see how your buttons look in a Firefox sandbox (I use this one):
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -metal-xp/
I tried some dark themes and they all made the icons look strange (exactly like my images posted). I have tried a few and they all look strange. You mentioned you tried this on a Win 8.1 machine but I am running Win 10 so maybe thats why its working for you and not me?
I can live with the ugly looking icons (not ideal) but the hanging of Firefox when trying to download something is extremely frustrating.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Like xy667 says it is intermittent, sometimes I can download for example 6 files fine then on the 7th it could freeze, or it could freeze on the first file.
Today I got this error when Firefox froze and I had to force quit (the only plugin I use is Adblock Plus):

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
This is a known FF issue. Mozilla has posts about this. It happens when not SB as well.JayT wrote:Like xy667 says it is intermittent, sometimes I can download for example 6 files fine then on the 7th it could freeze, or it could freeze on the first file.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1047038
Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
Some themes may not translate or look "100% exact" as a non SB version. This is especially true in Windows 10. And it was determined that it was SBIE actually displaying FF correctly in Win 10..and FF was not following Win 10 best practices.xy667 wrote:Hi Craig

As for themes, we usually don't test those. They're troublesome at best.

Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
As for FF downloads in 7, 8.1 and 10 or icons/animations...using FF without themes, etc hasn't been a problem. Both installing FF directly inside of SBIE or on a host and running it under sandboxie. Do you have A/V scanning your downloads? That's a known issue with FF.....And they have a sticky on that.... it's a old issue, but it still occurs. http://mzl.la/1BAT65oxy667 wrote:Could it have affected the Firefox downloads? What are the options here?
I've downloaded multiple items of varying sizes. I haven't experienced any issues. Could the Windows updates have affected other things? Sure. It affected everyone. But as for downloads, not that we're seeing.
Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
I disabled hardware aceleration and as mentioned in previous posts I don't run AV (Firefox 41 doesn't have the option:browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone). Firefox is still hanging when I download things. Last night it became unresponsive after trying to download/view a PDF. Very frustrating.
Re: Firefox crashes after downloading files
I actually meant that as a (proactive) test. I did say to "try a few downloads" - Meanwhile off of a clean Windows 8.1 image, no AV installed - Sbie 5.06 clean new sandbox default settings - no Fx Add-Ons - no flash installed so no need to disable protected mode - Hardware Acceleration off - no themes installed - downloads freeze at 1% remaining.bo.elam wrote:That doesn't sound like a good idea, Joe (remember, October's Windows updates breaks SBIE).JoeHood wrote:Try Sbie 4.20 and try a few downloads, here it is perfectly fine. Google search shows this same exact problem with other browsers, but not recently. So it does not need to be Fx, and there is no freeze unsandboxed. Sbie 4.20 remains all good.
