I found a similar problem report, but it's not the same.
Win 10 Version 1703 Build 15063.413 - all Win updates installed - Intel i5 - 8 gigs RAM
I'm running a licensed copy of SB, but do not know what version I had before trying to update to 5.20. I always just update right away, then forget the version number.
It currently reports version 5.20, but it isn't.
I started the update to 5.20. The messages quickly flashing by repeatedly included the word License. After numerous repeats of the same messages, it said that files could not be updated ... make sure sandboxie isn't running and nothing is sandboxed.
It wasn't running.
I rebooted my machine to try again, but now SB will not attempt to update because it 'thinks' that version 5.20 is already installed.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Update to SB 5.20 failed but says it has version 5.20 now

Jim, look in Sandboxie control>Help>About Sandboxie to see the number of the version you have now.

Hello JimOfCR,
If after following Bo's suggestion you determine that the version is not 5.20, you can download the latest Sandboxie release via here:
https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?DownloadSandboxie
Use the installer to re-install Sandboxie, then check the version again.
If all fails, you can use the installer to uninstall Sandboxie (you can keep your settings if you want to), and then reinstall it.
Make sure your Antivirus program is not blocking it from installing/updating.
Regards,
Barb.-

The version I mentioned is from Help -> About Sandboxie. It says 5.20.
The progress bar during the install stopped at maybe 5% and did not continue. Then the message that I mentioned in my initial post was presented. It was after I booted Windows in order to try again with a clean startup that I selected Help -> Check for Updates and received the message that no new versions were reported. I then checked Help -> About Sandboxie to check the version number. It was and is 5.20.

Hi JimOfCR,
You can follow the steps I provided above if you want to reinstall Sandboxie.
We also have a similar thread for version 5.18, which may help you if you are still experiencing the issue:

If you are not experiencing any problems, you can test that you have version 5.20 by checking it against the release notes:
