Flash Player in FF 48 64bit - Workaround to try

Post by Craig@Invincea » Wed Aug 24, 2016 8:46 am

If you're experiencing Flash issues in FF 48/64..there is a possible workaround.

1. Create a odd numbered Sandbox - Such as FIREFOX -as that's an odd number of characters
2. Run FF in that SB and test flash out

Report your results if you like.

We believe it's a memory issue, but we're still looking at it.

There is no ETA on a permanent solution. Monitor the beta change logs.

Doesn't make any difference to me, using IE.

It worked for me but what the heck? Why does a number of chars decide if FF can run flash or not!? Crazy stuff :)

Using Internet Explorer?

I'm aware this workaround is for Firefox, but I was pointed here from a different topic as a general fix for Flash Player not working after Anniv. Update. and it doesn't work in Internet Explorer unless I'm doing something wrong.

Sorry, I'm not using IE or Edge so I can't tell. It works for Firefox 64bit version. Flash in Opera browser is still working, no problem with odd or even numbers of characters.

I found an old post I recalled reading a while back:

http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 3&p=109058
http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 58#p109243
It is not box_name but FileRootPath where occurs the sporadic problem.
box_name of course dictates FileRootPath where %SANDBOX% is specified.

e.g.
fail FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\0
pass FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\01
pass FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\012
fail FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\0123
fail FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\01234
pass FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\012345
pass FileRootPath=C:\Sandbox\BUCKAROO\0123456
I wonder if it's related?

I never was able to duplicate it so I'm guessing there's something else missing that is also required for it to occur. With you guys making this strange suggestion out of the blue I wonder if you've finally been able to reproduce it? I have many odd and many even count box names...and haven't seen it make a difference but I'm all for a bug fix before I ever have to deal with the bug :P

Hi,

I have Windows 7 64bit, Firefox 49.0.1 FlashPlayer 23.0.0.162, Sandboxie 5.14 Registered

Running a flash movie outside Sandboxie works
Attempting to run the same movie in Sandboxie default sandbox gives a black window
Attempting to run the movie in an odd numbered (Firefox) sandbox loads the movie to a high 90% (for example), then I get a message 'A web page is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do?' [Stop it] or [Wait]. Clicking wait will soon have the message re-appearing; the movie doesn't ever seem to finish loading.

If the movie has fully loaded in my Firefox outside Sandboxie (ie cached), then it will also run in the odd numbered sandbox, but still not in my default sandbox.

I have exactly the same setup on a second older computer - the flash movie plays correctly in the default sandbox.

I have this same issue and have had it for a while. I see it's been out here since August. Flash is pretty common, so I'm surprised this issue hasn't gotten higher priority. What's up, guys?

All,

We were able to reproduce some of the reported problems with FF 64 bits only (blank screens / unable to play flash content).
At this time, this issue is not set to high priority since Firefox 32bit version seems to be working fine with Flash.

Please let us know if any issues are found with Firefox 32bits version (you can have both versions installed on your computer and use 32bits for flash).

Updates will be posted as they become available.

Regards.

I can confirm what you are saying, Flash with sandboxed Firefox 32 bits is solid. I use Flash heavily and haven't experienced any kind of issue in my W7 32 bits computer.
