Webcam on Yahoo

Post by Unknown_User_820 » Thu Jun 07, 2007 4:34 pm

Saw a reference to this but it wasold and the thread was locked. Has a fix been found? I've tried a couple of things but they don't work. It'll work in (censored) but that program is kinda unstable. I'm going to get a sandbox program shortly and this is the only real gripe about Sandboxie i have.

Thanks. I really like sandboxie and have been trying to figure the ends and outs of configuring it the way i need. (censored) is alright and frankly easier to customize but it seems to slow down my system and gave me a bsod once. Any help would be appreciated.

one thing i would like to add, for the love of god, nobody make anymore "webcam" threads, we all know there is a problem with webcams and sbie, (though im sure a simple trace would find the blocked resource to the webcam), anyways no need to keep making threads about it.
Windows 7 SP1 x64, Sandboxie v3.70 x64 with Experimental Protection, GnuPG, OTR (Off-The-Record), Sticky Password, My Brain.

TS,

you should edit your sandboxie config

replace the traces =. with =adi

now download dbgview (systernals/ms tool)

try to run webcam and see where it gets stuck, if you can't find it, you can zip it and mail tzuk.

SndPhoenix, coffee?

Problem resolved in version 2.93.09.

To the best on my knowledge, no Open*Path settings were eventually required.

As you may or may not know, Sandboxie does not allow access to the device manager, so sandboxed programs can't mess the system by removing or altering device configuration. Instead Sandboxie implements its own "device manager" which provides read-only access to device configuration.

To let Yahoo Messenger see the web cam, the Sandboxie device manager had to be extended to provide some missing functionality.

Problem fixed!

I want to thank Tzuk for his great efforts resolving this problem. I'm sure by extending this functionality that it will be even more attractive to the majority of us 'plain folk'. I'm sure sndphoenix will be happy about this as well so there won't be any more posts about it.
I just want to give praise to the author who is dedicated to his work and seems to be always ready for suggestions and resolve problems.
I had tried Sandboxie about a year ago in an effort to find a light-weight security solution that wouldn't bog down my resources. At the time it seemed buggy to me and I couldn't quite figure out how to work it. Part of that may have been my fault in that sometimes I don't take the time to actually think things through.

This product now is as next to flawless as anything I've run across. I will unhesitantly recommend it to anyone.

My hat's off to you!
