is there a way to disable sandboxie from automatically searching for updates etc?
if there isnt it sure would be nice so that it doesnt confuse people who have been sandboxed to protect them from their own ignorance.
somethings that might be kinda cool to add.
1. the option of time when running things sandboxed. that is, when running any application it would be nice to have an extra option like
setting the day and time
to tell the program it is a certain date and time when in fact it isnt like the program run as date
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/run_as_date.html
but mabey another option like running with a virtual date and time where the time and date that the program was last terminated is kept and next time it is ran it tells it that it is 1 second later than the last time that it ran
2.
it would be nice to be able to hide the sandboxie icon from the system tray or password protect sandboxie from settings being viewed/altered
3.
i think there used to be a menu item that you could put the names of forced programs into instead of having to go into editing the config file would be nice to have
Box Deployment:
It would be nice if u took another angle with the project and created a new project that encapsulates an install (with its keys and files that go everywhere) and creates a single executable that creates a boxed environment with all its keys and files and executes the main program for it an on the fly unpack and run that either does not require sandboxie to be installed or does either or. and yes i read several posts for scripts to do somewhat similar things using sandboxie, but it sure would be nice if u had a seperate feature or seperate program just for encapsulating installs of programs within a 1(single self contained file that doesnt need to extract or self extracts invisibly and runs) or atleast a wizard to monitor an install/setup that creates executable that sets up the reg/file box environment and executes the main program selected by user
I dont know if u remember me from way back when sandboxie was mostly a side project and u didnt have a config for allowing programs to write outside the sandbox and didnt allow one to change maxkb limit and u thought i was crazy when i suggested them, anyway its been awhile and im glad to see the progress.
you did something i wanted to do for a very long time.
thanks..

Actually yes, afaik, when you first install Sandboxie (starting with 3.x) it asks you right away if you want to check for updates or not, and if not, then you can hit not now, or even click never so it won't check for updates again. If you don't get the message box, then try opening Sandboxie Control, click "Help -> Check for updates" and see if it brings the message box up.is there a way to disable sandboxie from automatically searching for updates etc?
This I don't know about, tzuk might or might not like this idea, however, personally, I don't really see the point of this though, I don't see any real need to run a program under a different date, other then if it is trialware and you are trying to use the program for more then 30 days...1. the option of time when running things sandboxed. that is, when running any application it would be nice to have an extra option like

Hmm, well as for the icon, I guess thats a possible option to add to the program. About password protecting Sandboxie, it has been brought up before, and tzuk does not like the idea at all, however, he did add a new option to the "new" Sandboxie, which is EditAdminOnly which should prevent any non-admin accounts from being able to alter the settings. Furthermore, you can also use the ForceDisableAdminOnly option as well if you want to.it would be nice to be able to hide the sandboxie icon from the system tray or password protect sandboxie from settings being viewed/altered
Well what you can do now (with the new Sandboxie) is right click the sandbox you want to edit the settings of, and just select "Sandbox Settings", then from there you can go to "Force Programs" (or ForceFolder) and force a program from there.i think there used to be a menu item that you could put the names of forced programs into instead of having to go into editing the config file would be nice to have
Well I like the idea, however, there is already a way to achive this (although not compressed into one executable...). Basically, all you need to do is just go to your sandbox folder, then right click the particular sandbox you are interested and then rar/zip it, then you can bring it with you, deploy it on another machine if you want, and you've got your own sandbox, plus all the programs files installed into the sandbox, and all the registry keys that were installed in the sandbox, etc..Box Deployment:

Thats about as close as your going to get to this feature for now...

I acknowledge that Sandboxie didn't always have exclusions and limitations and plenty of other things, but I have to say it was never a side project. Also I have to say sorry -- I don't remember you at all.spiffyconehead wrote:I dont know if u remember me from way back when sandboxie was mostly a side project and u didnt have a config for allowing programs to write outside the sandbox and didnt allow one to change maxkb limit and u thought i was crazy when i suggested them, anyway its been awhile and im glad to see the progress.
