Translate the web site in other languages

Post by FSoft » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:20 am

Seeing that Sandboxie is available in 10 languages, why don't we translate also its web site in those language to facilitate the reading of non-english users who don't know the english language? I can translate the web site in italian, if you want.

I appreciate the offer, but I have to decline. But if you want to create a separate Web site about Sandboxie (for example, you could request a free wiki from some public wiki server), then I will be glad to link to it.

But, can I copy the layout of this web site, or it's copyrighted?

You mean you want to translate this Web site page-for-page into some other Web site?
I think such an idea is better on paper than would be in practice.

Perhaps it would better to put together a few pages describing Sandboxie in Italian and suggesting some best practices?

If you can send me the source code of the web site, I can translate it quickly (1 month max.)...excuse my question but why don't you want to make this web site multilanguage?

Bye!!!

If you translate page-for-page and word-for-word then it means we have a burden of keeping the translation up to date. Otherwise if we're not going to bother to keep things up to date then why translate page-for-page in the first place?

Now you may think it's no big deal but then someday you may decide you are no longer interested. And then I would have to explain to people why the once-faithful Italian translation is becoming increasingly out of touch with the English site.

I don't want to put myself in that position.

Having said that, I re-iterate that I think the better approach is what I suggested: A general introduction to Sandboxie with possibly some advice and tips.

Ok, excuse me for my insistence...I will follow your suggestion...

The space for website is ready, the web site not yet. The website is: www.sandboxie.altervista.org.

What do you think?

Bye!

Hmm, question, when you say "translate the site" do you mean to translate the front page, translate the forum, or translate the whole site such as the frontpage, the licensing page, the documentation page(s), the tutorial pages, forum, etc..

Cause if you just mean the forum, well then wouldn't that be as easy as just going into your profile and setting the language to your native language?

Ofcourse if you mean to translate everything, then good luck. :D

Btw tzuk, I wouldn't call the site "nice" yet.
Not that it is bad and does/will look like crap, but just that there isn't anything on the site to judge it by yet. :P

I would to translate the whole web site. But there's a problem: the update. The two web site (english and italian) will be synchronized. So, I thought to start to translate only the main pages of the web site.

Bye!!!

Some time ago I had the idea to translate and offer the online help (Help & FAQ pages) as german PDF but now I'm not feeling to do so.

Hi

The italian web site of Sandboxie is almost done. It will be open on 17th November 2008. Unfortunately, it isn't indexed yet by Google. Please, Can you link my web site on this web site?

For this, don't worry! I PROMISE YOU THAT, IF IN FUTURE, I NO LONGER INTERESTED TO DEVELOPING OF THIS WEB SITE, IMMEDIATELY I'LL CLOSE IT AND I'LL INFORM YOU.

Thank you, bye!
