Help

Post by aVeryLongUsername » Sat Nov 14, 2015 3:27 pm

After installing sandboxie I could run any program sandboxed without any trouble exept one thing: I can't connect to the internet.
I checked to see if it was because that programs were not allowed to accsess internet but that was not it and now I dunno what to do. I suspect it might have something to with my antiviruses because I have Avast Antivirus, Malwarebytes anti-malware premium and spybot 2 free version. Sandboxie version is 5.06. OS is windows xp 32bit sp3.

Hi aVeryLongUsername

You know, I've got exactly the same software that you have, with the exception of Avast, I use "Microsoft Security Essentials" instead, after getting rid of Norton Internet Security because it prevented my FF browser from working in Sandboxie.

Anyway, as a suggestion I think you should temporarily delete/uninstall Avast, reboot your PC then see if your browsers work, i.e access the Internet when sandboxed, if they do then you must choose another anti-virus application.

Hope this helps.

Avast was not the problem. Uninstalled it and rebooted but still no internet connection with any sandboxed program.

Remove any A/V and antimalware, then see if SB programs connect.

You can confirm that items connect outside of the SB? SBIE doesn't block internet access by any program by default.

This is what I recommend. 1. Delete the sandbox, 2. Create a new sandbox and leave default settings in place, then run your browsers and 3. Disable first and if necessary remove your AV, MBAM. You removed Avast but I am not sure you have done so with MBAM. Good luck.

You may also want to temporarily disable your windows firewall. It could be the cause of the internet blocking.

** Are you sure its sandboxie's fault? As in if u open a sandboxed browser, no internet, but if you open an unsandboxed browser you have internet>

All antiviruses uninstalled, no active firewall, new sandbox, default settings, made sure my computer is clean of malware, still unable to connect to the internet. Unsandboxed programs have internet connection but sandboxed ones do not. I don't know what to do.

Oh, realised you didnt mention which program you are using to connect to the internet. You may try a sandboxed version of firefox, see if it is able to browse webpages. It may be because the program which you are trying to access the internet with sandboxed is not compatible with sandboxie.

Chrome, firefox, ie or any program that needs internet connection doesn't work when sandboxed.

By default, SBIE does not stop you or any program from connecting to the internet. That only occurs if you explicitly configure SBIE to do so.

There most be something conflicting on your XP box.

The problem is I don't know what's interrupting sandboxie to get internet access and I don't know how to find it out.

Antivirus / Antimalware come to mind first. Firewalls?

This is any and ALL browsers? What happens when you do a ping test from within a SBIE browser?

Well I scanned my computer once more with malwarebytes anti-malware and nothing.
I ran cmd sandboxed and typed: ping google.com
That did work but I still have no idea on how to get internet access for browsers as ALL sandboxed browsers I have(ie, chrome, firefox) wont have internet access.

Hmm. Obviously, if you can ping sandboxed and get outside.... Then SBIE isn't configured to block anything.

And, by default..SBIE doesn't block a thing. It'll allows any and all traffic.

Are you running any ACTIVE antivirus and/or firewalls that could be blocking ALL web browsers? Home or work network?

So, running every browser you have installed (as sandboxed) does nothing? Nothing loads? Typing CNN.com in a sandboxed browser windows results in a "page not found" type of error?
