Sandboxie Control won't open. [SOLVED]

Sandboxie Control won't open. [SOLVED]
Like the title says, I can't get sandboxie control to open by either clicking on the desktop shortcut, or by clicking the icon on the taskbar which i pinned.
Only way I can open the window is by clicking the icon in the system tray, and hitting "show window".
Not sure if it's a sandboxie issue or some sort of corruption issue on my end... but what i do know, is that it started after i unpinned the icon from taskbar, and then pinned it again.
I've tried restarts, reinstalling the latest SB beta and opening SB control straight from in program files but the issue persists.
Any advice or thoughts?

Re: Sandboxie Control won't open.
What about the notification bar icon?
What about "run browser sandboxed" icon?
You can try removing SBIE totally, not copying any settings, and reloading.
Of course, if you have any 3rd party security/AV programs, that can interfere as well.

yes, right clicking the notification bar icon, and clicking "show window" works like it should. It's the only way I can get the window to open. (also for what it's worth, if i "exit" sandboxie by using that icon, and then click my pinned taskbar icon, sandboxie will relaunch minimized. the icon is back in my notification bar, but the control window doesn't open.)Craig@Invincea wrote:What about the notification bar icon?

the "run browser sandboxed" icon works fine.
i guess the next thing I'll try is uninstalling norton, and seeing if there's a change. After that I'll try a fresh install of sandboxie. (althought both the files in program files>sandboxie, as well as the folder itself are supposed to be whitelisted in norton)

Make sure the shortcut uses this path.stonerd wrote:Like the title says, I can't get sandboxie control to open by either clicking on the desktop shortcut, or by clicking the icon on the taskbar which i pinned.

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieCtrl.exe" /open

Re: Sandboxie Control won't open.
I think there is something wrong with your shortcut and you have pinned this shortcut as well. Check the shortcut properties, the shortcut should be
If you omitted the "/open" the control window will not show.
Check also if run as minimized, it should be run as normal window.
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SbieCtrl.exe" /open
Check also if run as minimized, it should be run as normal window.

this fixed my issue, thank you Bo.bo.elam wrote:Make sure the shortcut uses this path.stonerd wrote:Like the title says, I can't get sandboxie control to open by either clicking on the desktop shortcut, or by clicking the icon on the taskbar which i pinned.

after adding "/open" to the shortcut, and then pinning THAT window, i can open it once again from the taskbar.
clicking sandboxie control from within the installation folder still does not open the window however, and i know for a fact it used to.
so unless this is a glitch on my system alone, I think it would be nice if that functionality was re-added in the future. as of right now, by default, "SbieCtrl" acts the same as "start".

And you should remove Norton. We have it as a conflict program for a reason.
It causes many issues you may have or will have. It will cause you headaches with SBIE.
This why you're flagged with a pop up box when SBIE is installed or when you run software compatibility from SBIE control.
It's listed here: http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?KnownConflicts
We generally won't troubleshoot SBIE issues if a known conflict program is installed as 99% of the time it's related to that. Your case was just a shortcut issue...

if i delete my sbiectrl shortcut from desktop and reinstall sandboxie, a new shortcut is not created.Craig@Invincea wrote:And you should remove Norton. We have it as a conflict program for a reason.

pretty sure thats where this issue is stemming from... not sure why that would remove "/open" from an existing, older, shortcut... but yeah, sandboxie control is pretty important, and that shortcut doubly so, especially for new users. might want to look into it.
