I'm guessing here, but I think you haven't created your default sandbox. You can make a new folder.. (i.e. Sandboxes) then, go to the sandboxie application in your tray, open main window, select configuration, then global settings, set sandbox top level folder... and copy the path to the folder you created. The example given, is C:\Sandboxes\%SID%, which works just fine.. I used that example to configure my default sandbox.

Something is out of the ordinary in your computer, in that it does not create such an APPDATA symbol.

But the cure is easy:

Sandboxie Control -> Configuration menu -> Global Settings -> Change Sandbox Top-Level Folder

The default is APPDATA; change to C:\SANDBOX or something like that.

It worked. I created a folder, went to Configuration Menu and pointed to the folder.

Good software! Regards, Paulo

SBIE1406:

Post by Unknown_User_643 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:50 am

SBIE1406 Missing or invalid expansion for APPDATA: [C0000034]

This error occurs every time McAfee Enterprise 8.5i does its daily Automatic Update.

It occurs ever time McAfee Enterprise 8.5i starts its nightly virus scan.

I had this same problem after doing an out-of-the-box installation.

My installation is %APPDATA% for multiple users, right out of the box. I had to create C:\Sandboxes, then set C:\Sandboxes\%APPDATA% into the Global Settings. This failed, because it doesn't like %APPDATA%, so I changed it to %SID%.

Since multiple people are having this problem, it is apparent the installer should either do it for you, or the installer should check for the presence of the default sandboxes.

Thanks for the tip. I created C:\Sandboxes, then set C:\Sandboxes\%APPDATA% into the Global Settings. This fails, because it doesn't like %APPDATA%, so I changed it to %SID%.

I responed in the other thread. Since multiple people are having this problem, it is an installer issue. The installer should either create these structures at setup time, or the installer should check for the presence of valid sandboxes.

And no, McAfee is a system level service. It is not running in the sandbox.

I'll probably change this default sometime.

I was also told that in a domain environment, the %APPDATA% folder is roaming. This means Windows will try to upload the contents of the sandbox onto the domain controller computer, and that's just pointless.

By default, in a domain environment, nothing is roaming. User's profiles are still held on the local client device and not uploaded / reconciled to a DC even if your logon is a domain logon.

However, if you enable roaming profiles then yes, your entire local profile (except Local Settings) is copied to and from a central file store as you logon and off. But it is possible to exclude folders from this (via a GPO or registry key on the client) and hence you could exclude the %APPDATA%\Sandbox folder from roaming.

Oh, I see. I wasn't aware exclusions could be made.
