Post by Oneder » Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:53 pm

XP install.

Can't play this online WMP vid from a sandboxed FF but plays OK unsandboxed.

Can anyone confirm.

Yep. When I click the link I get a FF warning about launching an external program to play mms: files. I click OK, and nothing happens.

Hmm, just tried it and it loaded up WMP (sandboxed) and proceeded to load the video just fine. :? I didnt test this on XP though, i tested it on Vista, maybe that's the difference? If i had to guess though, i'd say it might be a plugin in firefox thats causing this to happen to you? Also, sounds silly, but maybe the problem is simply that when you last tried it, the server was down, so you couldn't connect, lol.

P.S That guy in the vid looks like one of my old high school teachers.

Hooked up my Vista drive and at first WMP couldn't connect.

How dumb am I as I had those extra ini settings to stop all outbounds.

Deleted those and WMP plays no probs.

Now to hook up the XP drive and try again.

Dumb and dumber!

Those extra ini lines again in XP.

WMP playing fine now.

Intend keeping those ini lines as I prefer it that way.Just have to remember they are there though.

Thanks to the other fellas for their input.

Haha, no problem man, also, as an alternative, instead of removing those lines from the ini, how about just creating a new sandbox and leaving those lines out (in that sandbox), that way you dont have to keep adding and removing them from the ini. Oh also, notice how 4 simple text lines are stronger than 100's of firewalls out there, lol. Btw, now that you said dumb and dumber, i have to go watch it now!

:?: Please give the filename for the file with the .ini extension.

:? I'm trying to follow this thread for future reference and at this post there begin several references to a "ini" file to stop "outbounds," but after scanning up and down the thread, I can't locate the filename.

Are we talking about sandboxie.ini? Didn't know there were any commands in Sandboxie to "stop outbounds." Please enlighten.

Huh, actually I can't play this video in FF at all, even unsandboxed. Do I need a particular plugin to play it while embedded? Works ok in IE.

wraithdu - maybe this link will be of some help:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player

It also refers to a conflict with VLC Media Player plugin. Do you have that installed?

Thanks for the link, but I actually have the plugin installed and tested working. I do not have the VLC plugin installed.

I should say that I've tried this on 2 machines with both FF Portable and installed version, sandboxed and unsandboxed.

The video window on that page shows as a still image with a button below it saying 'Watch'. I've noticed that the 'Watch' link doesn't work for that video, however it does work and launches WMP for other videos from that site. However none of them play inside the browser. It doesn't work in Safe Mode either (not a total surprise).

I'll have to try disabling ALL my extensions and see if that works I guess.
