Slow USB Drive

I have no problems with Sandboxie, and everything works smooth and quick. I have my container folder set at the default C drive location. If I set the container folder on a usb stick everything becomes unworkably slow. Browser takes over a minute just to open. and each tab after that is just as slow. It may because that stick is quite old, but before I purchase a new one I thought I'd check to see if others here have the same situation.
