Something you need to be aware. After you click OK and Apply, the setting does disappear. But you ll see it if you click on the Drop down menu and select Opera. This means only Opera has direct access to bookmarks.

After applying the settings, test saving bookmarks in the old sandbox, if it doesn't work, then create a new sandbox for Opera and try again. As you create the new sandbox, don't copy settings from any existing sandbox. After creating the new sandbox, add the 2 lines.

@ yabbadoo

As what I can see those settings won't work because those two settings are use for template and it doesn't exist. You may try the settings bellow instead.

Code: Select all

opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Bookmarks*
opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Thumbnails*
Just go to File Access > Direct Access in sandbox settings and under All Programs. Click Edit/Add and add those settings one at time. Don't forget to apply.

Or you can edit your sandbox configuration and add bellow settings under your selected sandbox name

Code: Select all

OpenFilePath=opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Bookmarks*
OpenFilePath=opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Thumbnails*

Thank you so much for replying to my thread. Your first fix re. opera.ex has cured the problem using my normal default box and you were correct in saying the template fixes proposed by Bo would not work - they never.

My saved bookmarks and other changes made in my sandboxed Opera all transfer to the basic Opera on SBxie shutdown and back again on reopening with SBxie. PERFECT ! Everything now works as it should do and there is no lost data from the sandbox.

Your brilliant fix has now totally cured the problem specified in this thread and it can be marked SOLVED.
I cannot put into words my thanks to you and Bo for coming up with what is a simple solution to a problem which can easily get out of hand and result in re-inventing the wheel, with no practical conclusion.

My SBxie configuration now looks like this (your fixes are at the top) :-

yabbadoo, when I first started using SBIE, how to save bookmarks was one of the first things I wanted to know how to do. Its important for making using SBIE convenient. I am glad all is well now for you. :D

We will have to add a new template, while keeping the old so that users running older Opera will be ok. But we can easily add this newer template under Applications. Glad that worked, your "problem" made me check to see what had changed, and it did change.

Craig, my Opera is kept updated automatically. I never had the problem described in this thread with SBxie/Chrome.

When I first notice this bookmark problem, I browsed the web and found that I was not alone in having this trouble. In all my browsing I found nothing which was anywhere near a solution, just confusion and frustration. Thanks to Bo Elam and rpljhun on this Forum for providing a total and simple solution. Just a few mouse clicks and it was all done.

Wow Craig, if all those guys on the web with similar SBxie/Opera bookmark trouble knew of this thread, it would really make their day !

The Edit had expired on my last post. Apologies, the statement "There have been 86 updates since I installed it around January 2016." is wrong, please ignore. I made a mistake and quoted a wrong figure.

If Craig or somebody could possibly delete this expression from the relevant post together with this post, it would clean up matters in what has been a brilliantly solved thread.

What are the exact lines you are using currently for your usage in Opera? I want to gather that up so we can can formulate one that works in the upcoming betas to add to the original one.

Would you happen to know when they changed it?

Sorry, had to quote the animation again. :)

I used the lines given by rpljhun . They are shown below exactly as I entered them ;-

opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Bookmarks*
opera.exe,%AppData%\Opera Software\*\Thumbnails*

And they come up on my Sbxie Settings Direct File Access (OpenFilePath) panel as the top 2 lines. The rest of the data shown is nothing to do with me. :-

I really cannot remember when I first noticed that I was losing bookmarks and other data created within SBxie. Guessing, I suppose about 3 weeks ago.

It works impeccably now, not a blemish in sight. I cannot get over how such a serious fault was cured by an unbelievably simple addition to the SBxie settings. I am so grateful to rpljhun for posting his brilliant solution.

Craig, so pleased to be of some use.

Just another beneficial point of this fix which I have noticed.

I have an extension called Click & Clean added to Opera from the Chrome webstore. Opera allows and accepts this.

For 3-4 weeks I have noticed that the C & C settings which i select kept reverting back to some previous settings and even changing to default settings at times. This caused me to avoid using C & C to shut down the browser as it is intended to do, but to manually clean selected items like cookies, cache and history.

After applying the bookmark fix of this thread, C & C remains static - fixed - and the settings I select no longer keep changing. I can now use C & C to close my browser as it should do and my selected settings will automatically clean the items which they refer to.

With C & C having a life of its own and changing things willy - nilly, it was highly dangerous since password cleaning is listed on the options.
