XP'd Sandboxie

Post by mizzmona » Tue Aug 01, 2006 3:43 pm

Sandboxie UIs and dialogs are pretty straight forward and appear to be very "XP-theme compatible." Those running XP only need add a few simple manifest files to Sandboxie's program folder to render an XP-looking Sandboxie. :wink:

Copy this content for the manifest files:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<assemblyIdentity
    version="1.0.0.0"
    processorArchitecture="X86"
    name="Sandboxie"
    type="win32"
/>
<description>Sandboxie</description>
<dependency>
    <dependentAssembly>
        <assemblyIdentity
            type="win32"
            name="Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
            version="6.0.0.0"
            processorArchitecture="X86"
            publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df"
            language="*"
        />
    </dependentAssembly>
</dependency>
</assembly>
Paste the above into a text editor, then save it three times to Sandboxie's program folder using these filenames:

Control.exe.manifest
Start.exe.manifest
SandboxieExplorer.exe.manifest

Close any relevant Sandboxie program, if running, and restart. Voila!

Should you decide you prefer the classic Windows look, just delete the manifest files and restart the program again. (These files have no affect outside of XP, of course.)

Nice. :)

Speaking of XP'ed stuff, Mona, your new icons have a few strange problems -- I guess that's related to the use of 16M colors. :?:

For instance, in pre-SP4 Windows 2000, they appear seriously corrupted. (Well, who uses pre-SP4 Windows 2000, anyway. :wink: )

So I borrowed (read: cut-and-paste) your concept of the updated Sandboxie Control icon (replacing the jailed IE icon), but other than that, I'll have to keep using my 256-color icons.

Oh my yes, WinXP icons will look terrible in non XP, if those are the only icons the OS has to pick from in the program resources.

But if you add other icons (like 256color ones) to your icon file resource, it should be fine if you will allow for it.

I'll peek at the resources myself in a bit, see if there looks to be any problems with that maybe... :)

Testing, results are good at my end. :) And you have a PM. :wink:
