Forced Folders

Post by Bellzemos » Thu Oct 11, 2012 6:16 pm

Hi! I have forced my DVD drive ( E: ) as a folder and the drive F: which I use to connect my external HDD to (for Windows System Image backup). If I make a backup while the drive is forced will the backup get saved on the external HDD or not? Thanx!

I have Sandboxie on both my systems. Paid version. Similar to your set-up, my cd/dvd drives and external drives (connected via usb) are identified as forced folders. I experience no problems doing file backups and system imaging to them.

Cool! I'm interested in how this is set in Sandboxie (Forced Folders). If I open a sandboxed Windows Explorer and delete some files and make some new ones that won't be done to the real drive. But as you say, if I do that to a sandboxed-forced external HHD it will be afected - the real drive, not just sandboxed. Why is that so, what's the rule here?

A practical question: if I format an externall HDD whose drive is forced-sandboxed, will it get formatted for real? And if I make a system backup on it, or just copy some files on it (or create some), will these files or backup stay on that HDD for real? Even when I put it into another PC (I don't have another atm so I can't try it myself).

I'm interested in the "rule difference" between "forced f." and "sandboxed explorer".

I hope I wasn't too confusing. Thanx for reading. :)

Another thing I'm interested in: is the DefaultBox the "master box"? Because if, for example, I set a program to run forced in two sandboxes (the DefaultBox and a CustomBox which has internet access denied) that program will still be able to access the internet, since it seems that DefaultBox rule overrules the CustomBox rule. So I guess it's enough to force a program in just one sandbox, forcing a folder or a program in more sandboxes doesn't increase the safety, right? I'm just trying to understand how Sandboxie works. :)

I apologise - I know that this thread would fit better into the "Anything Else" than "Quick Questions", move it there if you will. Thank you.

No sandbox overrules another one.
If a program is set as a forced program in multiple sandboxes, then when Sandboxie checks the sandbox settings the first one that it finds that lists the program as forced is the sandbox that is used.
As soon as it finds the ForceProcess setting for that program in the settings of a sandbox, it stops looking for the same setting in any other sandboxes.
