Can't drag links between IE windows

Post by lwc » Sun Sep 23, 2007 11:28 am

I can't drag links between Sandbox IE windows, let alone between a regular IE window and a Sandboxie IE window (if it's vice versa, it shuts down the regular IE!).

I use IE v6 (XP SP2).

I tried it with Firefox - dragging a link from unsandboxed Firefox to the sandboxed Firefox crashes the unsandboxed instance.

Still, I've never had to do that because copy link/paste link works fine between two instances, sandboxed or not.

Actually if im not mistaken, hasn't tzuk said that this is intentional? It's meant to keep sandboxed processes from communicating with unsandboxed processes.

The separation is intentional, the crashes, not so much. :) I'm writing it down to check it out at some later time.

While still not allowing that, v3.20 doesn't crash anymore when an attempt is made. Thanks. However, why can't we drag links between sandboxed IE windows?

You can (or rather: I can, and just did) drag links between two IE browsers in the same sandbox.
Maybe you're talking about two browsers in two sandboxes? That's not going to work, the isolation of the sandbox is too strict for drag-and-drop to work between programs not in the same sandbox.

I'm talking about a single sandbox that has IE open. I have two windows open in the same sandboxed IE but I can't drag and drop between them.

If I can drag links between two browsers surely I can drag them between two windows of the same browser. Of course I'm not merely assuming it should work. I tried it, and it does work.

So whatever it is that is preventing you from drag-and-dropping, I can't reproduce it.

lwc:

For me, dragging and dropping a link between 2 IE windows in the same sandbox works - but only if I drop the link in the main part of the other window, not in the address box. If I try to drop the link inside of the address box of the other window, it isn't allowed.
I hope I explained that OK. :?

As soon as I take the link anywhere out of the current IE (v6) window, the mouse icon changes into the "not possible" icon.

This is what happens to me when I try to drag a link from the sandboxed IE6 address bar to the OpenPipePath desktop. I can copy the address bar contents to the clipboard and paste the address into the create shortcut wizard to create a shortcut on the desktop. A little extra work but wondered if it is by design?

same sandbox - but doesn't drag and drop

Post by Ninho » Mon May 19, 2008 10:48 am

I also get the problem - can't drag a link from a browser window, which led me to this ageing thread. Has any more research gone into this ?

To be absolutely clear : I try to drag and drop a link between two windows inside one and the same sandbox. But I can't drag, drop even less : as soon as I "seize" the link and start "moving" it, the mouse pointer reverts from a hand to an arrow, significating the operation is impossible or cancelled :-(

Only IE is concerned. Drag&drop in Firefox is OK both between tabs in one and the same window, and between separate sandboxied windows.

Others having the same problem ?

Since it's working for Tzuk and, I'm sure, a few others, could there be something platform dependant getting in the way of proper d&d operation ? I'm on windows 2000 SP4.

Keep keeping on.

P.S. I will gladly debug and send results if so instructed.

Maybe it's platform dependent, as you say. (I'm using XP and Firefox)

If there's a link in the window of one of my tabs, that I want to open in another (existing) tab, I can drag and drop that link onto the other tab, to open the link there.

I can drag and drop a link from the address bar onto any of the tabs.

I can click on one of the tabs, and drag and drop the link into the body of the tab window that is currently showing.

Trying to drag a link onto the Desktop is not allowed, but it no longer causes a crash as it used to - for me.

I'm awfully sorry, I made a mistake in my report - corrected now :
I've got the problem with MS internet explorer only, not FF ! IOW, drag and drop is working for me, like it is for you, between tabs and also between different windows.

I can't drag and drop from an MS IE 6 window.

Cheers
