Post by Adminstrator » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:08 pm

I have problem with Sandboxie version 3 and Yahoo! messenger. When I try to open a link from Yahoo! messenger News plugin, Sandboxie would block it causing an error to my browser(Firefox). Sandboxie also seen to suppress Yahoo! messenger new email notification. Earlier Sandboxie version was fine. No problem with Window Live messenger too.

Yahoo! messenger version:8.1.0.401
Firefox version:2.0.0.4

No offense, but shouldn't Administrator be an illegal user name to use in the forum, unless you are the Forum Administrator?

I'm afraid I wasn't able to reproduce any of this. No crashes, and email notifications work just fine. Sorry.

I just reinstall Yahoo! messenger and download the latest Sandboxie Versions 3.00.01.
The email notifications now appear but when Yahoo! messenger try to start firefox, it still crashes and display those error message. No problem when running them (Yahoo! messenger and firefox) outside of Sandboxie.
The problem only occur when I sandbox both Yahoo! messenger & firefox.

I'm going back to older version 2.86 to test again(to verify if the problem start from Versions 3). Will report back shortly.

O.K. I'm back to Sandboxie Versions 2.86. No problem running both firefox and Yahoo! messenger in sandbox. I was able to open firefox from Yahoo! messenger in this version of Sandboxie. So the problem had to be with the changes make in version 3 of Sandboxie. I'll later post more screen capture and my setting to assist you in finding the bug. Please let me know if you need any specific information.

Btw the previous Guest post was also my me. I forgot to put my user name

On my system too I cannot open yahoo email firefox window from yahoo messenger's mail button unless sandboxed Firefox is already running. Or to open to see a profile of a pal.
Those of course work with unsandboxed messenger.
My system has both ProcessGuard free and Prevx 2 running, so they could be afffecting too. Above happens with either Comodo or kerio 2.1.5 firewall installed.

Continue from above. Last Screen capture.

As Jarmo P mention, the problem does not occur if firefox is already running(strange)

Wow, cant believe nobody knows what the problem is, let me give you brief background info first, in 2.86 sandboxed apps could communicate with unsandboxed windows/apps (for e.g a sandboxed yahoo messenger and a unsandboxed ff), but with the release of 3.00, tzuk made it more strict to block the communication between unsandboxed and sandboxed windows/apps unless you manually allow the communication. So what does that mean, that means that yahoo messenger (while sandboxed) is trying to communicate with (unsandboxed) FF but cant because it cant communicate with an unsandboxed FF (which is what its trying to do) cause of the more strict settings introduced in 3.00, BUT, when you have FF sandboxed along with yahoo messenger, then there is no problem because yahoo messenger (which is sandboxed) is communicating with another window/app that is sandboxed (which is allowed). Starting to make sense......? So all you should need to do is open the right path and tadaa, no more error. :)

OK, thanks for that last clarification about Firefox not running when you click the news item, that helped me to reproduce the problem. I definately see it, and I'm trying to understand it better now.

Ok, i took the time to test this myself, and i got the same error as you, so i decided to start playing around to see if i could get FF "allowed" and get this, i actually had it working...... once, see it turns out that it alway changes, so you'd always have to update your ini file with the correct entry every single time. Im still playing around with it, but im not sure how much more i can do. :?
