As a temporary workaround for this I've gone into windows updates and uninstalled the errant update (the security one from the 8th) and I've stopped and disabled the windows update service to prevent it from breaking things further until a solution has been found.Craig@Invincea wrote:Yes, a Windows Update has broken Explorer in SBIE. After the September 8 Windows update, I found I could not open Windows Explorer (File Explorer). I got a pop up.Also got this same error message after installing beta 5.02 today. I think everything else works normally.
Can anyone suggest anything?

Yes, the offending update ends in 55. Until a fix it confirmed, that is a good workaround.

What doesn't work? Please provide more specifics for a thread this big. If it's Cyberfox, yes. It's confirmed to work in 10 using the RC as tested on 09/11 with the offending "55" MS update installed.bigmiketn wrote:don't work with windows 10 still...

For anyone using Windows 8.1 an having the explorer problem uninstall "Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3087039)", after I removed it I was able to use folders in sandboxie again.
Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.02 RC)
Hi, I really didn't want to write anymore problems and make this thread any longer, but this is really annoying.
Win10 pro x64, chrome 45, sandboxie 5.02
Sandboxie is not automatically deleting everything when chrome is closed. One file doesn't get deleted in sandboxie. RegHive (16KB) doesn't get deleted.
And If I launch chrome again, I get:
SBIE2224 Sandboxed program has crashed: chrome.exe
SBIE2205 Service not implemented: Win32Init.5 (00000000)
SBIE2205 Service not implemented: GdiInit.C0000017
If I delete the RegHive file, chrome sandboxed usually works fine. but I also get the above sandboxie crash messages after fresh OS restart, and launch chrome sandboxed, and other times, too, kinda randomly. chrome not sandboxed works fine every time.

Thanks for identifying the update causing my problem. Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.02 RC)
There are several posts in this thread about this same issue. A Windows update ending in "55" from the 8th has broken Windows Explorer and SBIE. The Devs are looking at it. There is no fix at the moment. Steam does work, but we cannot say that all games will work with SBIE, Steam and Win 10.kawaxi wrote:Just a guy trying to open two accounts of steam , Im running Win 10 , I cant even run Windows Explorer... however right clic and run in sandbox , some times works

steam games still havent changed, they dont really care, this will be a "stable build" of sbie any day now with so much still broken in itkawaxi wrote:Just a guy trying to open two accounts of steam , Im running Win 10 , I cant even run Windows Explorer... however right clic and run in sandbox , some times works

Yuno. We have no control over what Steam does in regards to Win 10, We have to focus on working with Win10 & the changes that come weekly. If Steam totally works & we can do it, fine. However there is a lot of things different in 10. Some Steam games work, we cannot possible test every game or every possible rig customization that an end user may have.Yuno wrote:steam games still havent changed, they dont really care, this will be a "stable build" of sbie any day now with so much still broken in itkawaxi wrote:Just a guy trying to open two accounts of steam , Im running Win 10 , I cant even run Windows Explorer... however right clic and run in sandbox , some times works

The Explorer issue was a result of a MS security update on the 8th. Do you honestly think MS notifies 3rd parties and states "hey,we're doing this, and this might break." News flash, they don't. And most times they don't post a change log with terribly detailed criteria. We've looked. We find out in testing, or more likely, end users.
Furthermore, I would ask you to refrain from stating that "we don't care.." That's offensive to me. Have I met you Yuno? You know If I care? Would I be responding to you on a Sunday night if I didn't? (or others who I tried to respond too this evening & other times during the weekend in the forum, I do this to help-On my own time.)
More so, its offensive to the team of Devs who works on SBIE to try and make everything work. I'll remind you --- This presumptive disrespect will not be tolerated.

Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.01.10)
Actually, the common scenario for SBIE from it's inception was to protect you (specifically, IE...SandboxIE) when surfing online. It was never designed as a method for gaming - That's just something that came along. So, I totally disagree with your blanket statement it's completely broken. Steam does work, do all games? probably not. That's impossible to test.Yuno wrote:is steam games still just instant closing? itll be pretty embarrassing that a next "stable" build gets released soon with such a commonly used scenario, completely broken..unless they want even more people complaining..
SBIE performs just fine when it comes to it's core functionality. Sandboxing.
As for people complaining, that's usually what forums are for...issues that come up, and people that try and help. We usually like people to assist the community instead of making blanket and false statements.
Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.02 RC)
and windows 7? that instantly rules out whatevers done with windows 10, when windows 7 breaks on the same things in the same ways at the same time on the same sbie version(s). running games in order to multiclient or use another steam account at the same time, is still sandboxing, what the program is designed to do, right? we were questioned several pages ago in this thread that we were/are seen as "using sbie for reasons it wasnt designed for"..well one can think the same thing about sandboxing windows explorer, a program? fine. but windows explorer..?Craig@Invincea wrote:Yuno. i keep bringing the issue up not really getting any response, neither is most others with the same thing, yet for something else like sandboxing windows explorer..much replies/tracking/etc about that. whatever im asked to provide, we do/did, computer configs, sbie settings, screenshots, logs have been given since it was requested, no response, what does that say to the users with the problem? its not just me trying to get sbie to do something its never did before like metro apps etc, i/we're after what its always did for years, again im pointing at windows 7, step by step cause i bet if it was fixed in 7 it'd be fixed in 10 at the same time..

Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.02 RC)
Windows Explorer was broken by the MS Security Update. This was confirmed. How or what MS did to break it? Not sure. Devs are looking into it. But if you seem to think this may not be the cause, please share your insight here so that the Devs can verify any findings. In our testing, the MS Update that broke Explorer in 10 and 8.1 did not affect it in Win 7.and windows 7? that instantly rules out whatevers done with windows 10, when windows 7 breaks on the same things in the same ways at the same time on the same sbie version(s). running games in order to multiclient or use another steam account at the same time, is still sandboxing, what the program is designed to do, right? we were questioned several pages ago in this thread that we were/are seen as "using sbie for reasons it wasnt designed for"..well one can think the same thing about sandboxing windows explorer, a program? fine. but windows explorer..?

Windows 7 and SBIE v4.20 works as intended (same for 8.1...and XP). It's very stable. I've recreated your claimed issues (as well as others who has issues) working along with the Devs, and they were unfounded. However, my test rig my not mirror the hardware or software you are running or anyone else for that matter. That is beyond our control. It might work for me, and not you...or work for you and not me....We cannot possibly recreate your environment or any else's environment.
Support, as stated on the Sandboxie website it clearly mentions that "no level of Technical Support is guaranteed. You may not get an answer OR a resolution. We can't offer ETAs or promise any fix, We do try our best, We have limited resources and they are tasked for issues that are prioritized with what I find here (problems that crop up and how they effect users) while working along side the Devs. At the moment, it isn't Steam. It's the Explorer issue. When that is fixed, we will then return back on our list of issues, Steam is on it. I don't have an ETA on that. But, I cannot say all Steam games will work.
Furthermore, Your argument that if it's fixed in Win 7 it will be fixed in 10.....Your argument is invalid. A fix in 7 may not carry over to 10. A fix in 10 may not carry over to 7, but may in 8.1 and actually has caused other issues (we knew that was a possibility that was addressed for a problem in 10, caused issues in 8.1, but not in 7.)
They (the OS) are different in a lot of ways, they are the same in a lot of ways too.
--I would strongly suggest you not assume a fix one OS applies to multiple OS versions. This is NOT how it works.
Re: 5.01 Beta Available (latest version 5.02 RC)
On paper Sandboxie looks great and the idea behind it sounds very good, but from my personal experience with the software on Win 7,8 and now 10 I can say that execution is average if not sometimes even terrible for what Sandboxie is meant to do.
I'm not trying to flame on the forums but I've had purchased Sandboxie now several years ago and sadly stopped using the software when Win 10 came out because I could never make it work on the new OS, and I even thought that Sandboxie became abandonware at that point until I saw there is now a beta for Win 10.
Regardless of OS version many programs and especially games won't even launch or run properly when installed inside a Sandboxie. I've pretty much stopped using Sandboxie because of this reason.
I saw a dev post something about Sandboxie originally designed only for sandboxing browsers, but I swear reading on this website that it was for other programs as well when I originally bought a lifetime license.
I liked the idea of sandboxing programs for quick removal later on but Sandboxie has never really worked right on either version of Windows ever since I've bought it.
BTW, I'm not a programmer but also not a computer noob. Work in IT, so I know my way around PCs.
Lots of AV programs now have sandboxing for browsers and untrusted programs. I know for sure Webroot does it but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Confirmed. Version 4.20 and RC 5.02 are very stable (W7 32 bits and XP). No issues. Thank you.Craig@Invincea wrote:Windows 7 and SBIE v4.20 works as intended (same for 8.1...and XP). It's very stable.
