A question about secure erasing

Post by Unknown_User_820 » Fri Jul 06, 2007 4:01 pm

This is probably a stupid question and if it is I'm sure I'll hear about it but I'm led to believe that nothng is actually written to the hard drive so what difference does it make if something is erased or merely deleted from a sandbox?

The difference is that if you simply delete data on your hd (inside or outside a sandbox) it can be recovered from your hd by using a 3rd party tool, but if you securely delete data on your hd (again inside or outside a sandbox) then the data is deleted and overwritten on the surface of your hd which makes it alot harder and/or impossible to recover data from the hd using a 3rd party tool. Basically its pretty much a privacy thing.

As an extra safeguard in all of this secure delete process
you could also use sandboxie in conjunction with truecrypt:

....this would add an extra layer of security.
