Does BitDefender protect from malware in the sandbox?

Post by espresso » Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:49 am

I have BitDefender Total Security 2017. I have had no problems with Sandboxie and I have not had to change settings in BitDefender to work with Sandboxie. Will BitDefender protect against malware when Firefox or Chrome are run in the sandbox?

Hello espresso,

You can (and should) scan files before transferring them from your Sandbox to your host. Here's an example of how that works: (The Force Folders is not necessary, but it is a good extra layer of security if you have access to that feature)

Also, if you experience any issues with Bitdefender, have a look at this thread:

I don't need to scan files within the sandbox. When I download files, I use quick recover to save them outside the sandbox, where they will be scanned. I was wondering if Bit Defender will protect against malicious websites (malicious JavaScript, for example). Can Bit Defender "see" websites open within a sand-boxed web browser?

Hello espresso,

Please see this:
https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?FAQ_Virus

Look for "Can the anti-virus detect a virus in the sandbox?"

Always keep in mind the workarounds needed to make some antiviruses work in Sandboxie (some include disabling certain features, so that they play well with Sandboxie).

Yes it will. Your sandox is an actual folder on your hard disk and anything written to and read from the hard drive will be scanned by your AV (unless or course you exclude the folder or something like that). Be aware, at least a few weeks ago, the newest version of bitdefender does not work. I tried both bitdefender 2018 Total Security & bitdefender AV + and sandboxie would not work.I actually had to switch to emsisoft for sandboxie to work.

Bit Defender 2018 does work with Sandboxie, after applying the following workarounds:

If needed:
Paid version of BitDefender workaround:

Free version of BitDefender workaround:
