Hi Safemist. As far as I am concerned, I don't lose anything. There is nothing right now that I need it for. If there was a reason to keep it, I would keep it. But there is none. If in the future there is a reason to put it back, I ll put it back.

As soon as I saw that thing get installed automatically, I looked for how to get rid of it. That is because I avoid installing programs, addons, whatever, that I have no use for. Plugins is the kind of program that I avoid as much as possible. In my W7, I got none. I don't need any so I do it like that. If at any time, I require one, I install it sandboxed and delete the sandbox after using the plugin. I feel better handling plugins that way.

And this plugins updates on its own, not from Mozilla. I dont like it.

You sure can, safemist, you can test it yourself using Sandboxie. While running sandboxed, open about:config and toggle the preference below to False. After you do that, you ll see the plugin disappear from the plugins window. With or without it, you are able to watch videos as you always have.

rm22 wrote:if adblock plus is a problem you could try uBlock - i was having a different issue and switching to uBlock from ABP solved it. also - i assume you know there's a built in pdf viewer in firefox - no need for a plugin if you don't need the added features.
I have installed Adblock Plus in the new FF profile and still got not freezes. Hmm... I am running my old default profile now to see what's going on. And yes, I have disabled the SumatraPDF plugin since FF has it's own PDF viewer. How do you guys deal with the rest in Firefox (Cisco video codec, VLC plugin, nVidia 3D Vision)? I have disabled them all. I'll get back to you on how my default FF profile works now, if the freezes still happen or not.

Regarding the AdBlock Plus alternative - which one would be best for me who only use the "EasyList" and "Youtube: Other Annoyances" + I don't let the "non-intrusive" adds. Would uBlock cover all those tasks?

Hahaha, wow, what do you know - I already got the hard freeze with my default FF profile now. I'm really not sure what's causing it. Not sure if it's the AdBlock Plus or not. I'll go and surf the other/test profile with Adblock again and see what happens...

I would like to add a final comment, I was just installing/trying out several ad blockers. With about six tabs open I had another freeze. The thing was, this was unsandboxed. I rarely browse unsandboxed. Either when updating firefox or installing an add on. So whatever is causing my problem it has absolutely nothing to do with Sandboxie. Thanks for everyone's advice and help

Hi, I've been testing and testing different configurations and it seems that AdBlock Plus is in fact not the culprit. I'm not getting any hard freezes since I've enabled the "enable hardware acceleration" setting in FF and enabled the "nVidia 3D vision" plugin. It has to be one of the two. I will keep on testing...

And so, after extensive testing, I found out that the freezing was occuring because I have had the hardware acceleration in Firefox disabled. I did that quite some time ago since my Firefox starts faster if it's disabled. Now it takes a couple seconds more to start but at least I'm not getting the freezes anymore.

I have the Cisco codec, VLC plugin, Nvidia 3D plugins and Sumatra plugin disabled, only Flash is enabled in my Firefox. And the only add-on I'm using is AdBlock Plus with EasyList and Youtube Annoyances. So no, it wasn't AdBlock's fault.

My system is Firefox 36.0 under Sandboxie 4.14 protection + Avast Free AV, all running in Windows 7 SP1 x64. I hope this will help someone who would encounter the freezing problem in the future.

Be aware of another problem I realized today on x64 W7 SP1! You need to check what Ff version you are on. I mostly use Cyberfox and in updating and even just configuring it, I'll often have to "Disable Forced Programs" in Sandboxie. Today I noticed Ff wasn't v36, even though I knew I'd updated it a few days ago. I didn't recall recovering an image since then either. So I updated again, CCleaned, re-booted and then re-imaged only to discover I was back to v35. After eliminating CCleaner and the PC restart as possibilities, recalling my Cyberfox experiences, I updated again with Sandboxie's "Disable Forced Programs" enabled but the same thing happened. Finally, I completely exited Sandboxie and the update stuck. I will post this on Wilders also!

As I've said, problem sloved - no more freezing for me but FF is still sluggy and it could be due to Hardware Acceleration. I've read that both HW ACLR should be disabled to test this, FF's and Flash's HW ACLR.

What I need is information on how to disable this tick (I access this Flash setting by right-clicking on a Youtube video) and make it stay. Where does Firefox & Flash store this so I can make an open window (exception) in Sandboxie just for that particular session and have the disabled HW ACLR setting stay?

Image

I asked this on the Firefox forum and they basically told me to f*** o** cause they were annoyed by the fact that I didn't wanna do it outside of the sandbox. :D I've written to Adobe too but they were totally unhelpful. I've googled it and entered the setting (DisableHardwareAcceleration=1) in mms.cfg myself and that didn't work - nothing changed, HWA was still enabled.

So, please, tell me what exception do I have to make, access to full Firefox profile or something else, to make the Flash setting stay after I terminate Firefox' sandbox.

Thank you! :)

I believe that is stored in a macromedia cookie.

Thank you for the link but I can't get past the 2nd point - there's no such thing on the site that's linked there.

Do you maybe know where exactly is that Macromedia cookie stored so I can exclude it from Sandboxie for that one session?

Thank you.
