Hmm, not sure. tzuk, is there an installer commandline to set the language on a silent install? If so, is there also a default setting, maybe one that will read the OS's locale and set the language from there?

There is a switch for that:

http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3421

But there is no switch to auto-detect the language.

You can also change this setting post-install:

wraithdu -

I just installed the portable version and was reading the eraser information. I can't find a copy of version 5.84 that I trust to install. I installed the current version and copied eraserl.exe and eraser.exe where you said, but I'm not sure what it is supposed to do. Can you explain further?

Find the latest portable version here and use Eraserl.exe and Eraser.dll from that package - http://bbs.heidi.ie/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5341

The newer normal buillds use the VC++ runtimes and are not portable, hence the statically linked portable build on that page.

After that, follow the readme instructions -

----------------------------
PORTABLE INI FILE OPTIONS:
----------------------------

To use any INI file options, copy 'SandboxiePortable.ini' from the
'Other' folder to the same folder as 'SandboxiePortable.exe'.

---------------------------------
USE ERASER TO WIPE THE SANDBOX:
---------------------------------

Optional settings -

EraserMethod=<choose a method>
EraserOption=<-silent|-results|-resultsonerror>

....etc.

No, not at all. The portable launcher does not shutdown Sandboxie at all. It waits for Sandboxie Control to close, then invokes SB's own uninstall routine.

Anyway, a process running outside of Sandboxie will be able to close Sandboxie and it's service, provided you have sufficient privileges (Admin rights). This is not a security hole, risk, or concern. Sandboxie is meant to control processes running Sandboxed. Such processes cannot unload Sandboxie in any way which would cause a security leak.

@wraithdu
Have you successfully extracted the files from the portable version file "Eraser 5.8.7-beta4_portable.zip"
http://eraser.heidi.ie/announcements/20 ... ml#eraser5

My SHA-1 sum matches the one listed at their site, but trying to extract the files gives me an error with the file "Copying.txt" in the archive.
SHA-1 sum for the downloaded file matches: C8AA 0920 6BE4 CD9B 71B6 ADEC E478 5266 D85A 4EA8

Opening (not extracting), even while on-line, shows a file size of 0 bytes, and a packed size of 6725 for "Copying.txt".
Apparently, the rest of the files extract OK, but I dislike using files that came from a flawed archive file.

Tried with WinZip 12 and jZip 1.3.

You're right, the COPYING.txt file is corrupted. Nothing we can do unless the author re-ups it. You could drop a note in the forum that his archive is bad and he might replace it. I wouldn't worry though.

@mantra
The newer versions of Eraser need the VC++ runtimes to work. The portable version has these runtimes statically linked, so Eraser will work on computers that don't have the runtimes installed.

EDIT: I posted on the forum about the damaged archive.

Thanks, I was hoping you would. I figured that you were already a member of the forum.

Languages

A question about using this portable launcher with latest Sandboxie version (v3.34):

There are several other languages included with the installer. When I run the portable launcher, the program would always appear in English. Is there a way to launch it with a different language (in my case: German)?

There is no switch to auto-detect language during a silent install. If you know the language code, you can specify it though. Currently this facility is not built into the launcher. I'll keep it in mind for an update.

Thank you! It's not like I don't understand English, quite the opposite. But you know, you may want to have as many proggies in your native language as you can. A good idea might be a parameter switch, e.g. "sandboxieportable -l xy" (with "l" for language and "xy" for language number/code/whatever).
