Sandboxie controller v5+ [SOLVED]

Post by zerjetfuel » Sun Apr 10, 2016 6:17 pm

I started googling since I was unable to use a controller in sandboxie for video games, which bothers me a little since I saw that below v4 had hardware access but had it removed, I have seen no posts about how to get it enabled and my google results all led to openpipe which doesn't specify in any specific detail on how I would manage to make it use my controller in a specific sandbox dedicated to video games only.

Hardware access was removed long ago. If the controller works in Windows, it should work in SBIE as SBIE "sees' what's installed.

There is no was to make a specific sandbox use a specific controller.

SBIE is designed for isolation and online safety, security.

the controller works, but isn't recognized in sandboxed envireonments, and I don't want it to use a specific controller if anything I wanna know if there's a way to allow it to use specific device "groups" so I can simply just allow it to read and modify where the controller is located in my device manager

You can give direct file access to the installed device. Can't say it will work, as that's not a use case for SBIE.

You can use the below here to punch a hole in the SB directly to the device installation folder or System32 (if you know where to look for that device, You may have to ask the manuf.)
http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?Reso ... tings#file

Or you could just run the game on you host.

Either way, directfile access punches a hold outside of the SB, thus starting to degrade the safety of SBIE.

Also, SBIE does not allow any drivers to be installed directly into the SB. This is how it protects your keyloggers and other malware.

Well it's a shield controller from Nvidia although to my knowledge uses xinput the only extra driver it has is for the touchpad and I'm not specifically trying to install the driver in the sandbox It's already on my host.

I got my hands on a normal 360 for windows controller and it seems to work however why doesn't my other controller work?

the 360 controller is native to Windows. The nVidia is not, so it may not know how to handle the SB environment.

Again, that's what SBIE is designed to do. A Standard windows driver, such as a 360 device, is much different than a 3rd party device driver and how it works with Windows.

You'd have to work with nVidia to see what system32 locations (or other location) & possible registry locations, etc that would need to have direct access through the sandbox.

I see, well despite it being the wrong controller the general problem has been solved.
