Question about Sandboxie license and VMWARE

Post by UberFoX » Mon Jul 27, 2015 6:28 pm

If a person has a *1* PC license can said person use SandBoxie on their Virtual Machines on that *1* PC?

Or is SandBoxie going to refuse to activate for them virtual machines despite the fact they exist solely on that *1* PC ?

This is a VERY basic question and merits an answer.

A question like this is serious from a user perspective and is very important in the decision to buy sandboxie or not.

Why no reply?

It's an interesting question and I don't know the answer to it. I have the old "special" license which states that I can use my license on any number of computers that I own. So I am using it on my host system and on my guest system in VMware and it works.

As for the new (now standard) license type and VMware I think that someone from the Invincea team will answer you shorty.

If you have the old license you can do it. Otherwise, the new licensing scheme allows one PC at a time only.

You didn't answer.... It is ONE PC the PC that owns sandboxie wants to run sandbox on it's own personal vmware virtual pcs.

That is the point.

A virtual machine running on your PC is like running an extra *window* on your machine it is YOUR machine.

It is not a separate PC.

So does the license apply to your PC running SandBoxie on your PC in *another* window ie a VMWARE frame (Virtual PC)?

(To put it more simple terms a VirtualPC (or several of them) runs on your PC they are not independent unique machines they are software and exist only in memory/diskspace not physical machines so it IS the same machine and they are only used by the person who uses the machine in question (the one that bought the license) the single license for single machine applies to these?)

The Sandboxie license program will probably not accept the fact that it's the same PC, since the system code it calculates will be different on the Guest install.
The "syscode" is different in my VirtualBox Guest install, than it is on the Host install.
----
To view the System Code, open a command prompt in the Sandboxie program files folder and then:
license print syscode
to open a small window showing the System Code.

Or, use:
license print syscode | more
to also show the system code in the command window.

Or, don't open the small window, and display the system code only in the command window:
license.exe silent print syscode | more

Some other commands:
license print timeleft
license.exe silent print timeleft | more

license print version
license.exe silent print version | more

Craig, surely this is unreasonable as a principle. It may be of interest to may users, and I cannot see why this and similar questions shouldn't be answered in a public forum. It is precisely where it/they should be answered.

In this case I would have thought the answer is pretty obvious (unless you have screwed up on your licensing language), but nevertheless it deserves to be stated "in public" by a representative of Invincea!

The short answer is, if you have a license issue, you email support. We will then ask for more identifiable information to verify your license.

Long answer: Since it's related to a purchases and there are multiple flavors of SBIE licenses, including grandfathered licences that Invincea inherited and then add the new licenses we now offer, it's understandable to respond to each user regarding a purchase (which isn't public) via email. Since we require more identifiable user info to look into a activation issue.

Plus, as a rule and general common sense security, we don't discuss our activation schema. I would refer your to the ToS as stated in the language. http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?EndU ... eAgreement
