Annoying Vista Problem :@

Post by Unknown_User_941 » Tue Aug 28, 2007 3:05 pm

Hi I have vista x32 bit and for some reason whenever I try to run a sandboxed process nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. When I am on the main window (say I run IE sandboxed) it would pop up for a sec and then go but nothing would come up on the system tray. Likewise the red dots do the same.

Ideas and solutions will be greatly appreciated.

PS I have re-installed and unintalled so many times I lost track. :(

This is usually indicative of a conflict with another software, usually security products. Do you have any such software running?

thats right... vista's an annoying problem :)
didn't switch back for nothing :)
It gave me way too much conflicts with 3rd party software...

15% failed install, 35% fails in funcionality, 15% runs fine, the other 35% is MS software (sometimes their own software is totaly incompatible also)

nah... vista is made to make MS grow in monopoly... "buy vista now! (and the rest of our software, as no other products will work anyway)"

It is a brand new computer with Kaspersky anti-virus, and occasionally Windows Live Messenger running in the background. Though even when I turn off Kaspersky it does the same thing :S

I know this program and it's great cause I had it on my old computer its just annoying that it doesnt work. If anyone need to see what happens better (im not very good at explaining things) im going to post a video on my youtube site http://uk.youtube.com/theoperator002 Anything ideas, views anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Vista 32 bit here and no probs at all.

Have you tried the below?

Right click Sandboxie's browser launch icon and select Run as administrator.

Or:

Right click command prompt and select - Run as administrator, then copy and paste the below then hit enter.

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" default_browser

Anything happen?

When Sandboxie was installed and or executed does the UAC (User Account Control) throw up any warning?

Hmmnn, at this stage I would suspect Kav but you have turned it off and SB still doesn't kick in.

Doesn't Kav employ a ProActiveDefense which should throw up a warning to allow/disallow.

Maybe just turn off the ProActiveDefense side of Kav and see how it goes.

Other than that you could have a look at the settings for user account control through local security policies.

Control panel - Aministrative tools - Local Security Policy - Local Policies - (Hit)Security Options - (right pane) scroll down to the "User Account Control:" settings.

Double click each one and go to the "Explain" tab of each to check the default settings and check/set as such from within the "Local Security Setting" tab.

Yep been using Vista for 2.5 weeks, installed 250+ applications, and they all work fine. Anyways about the problem, it's not a Vista issue, it's just a conflict thats all, as Oneder said, i'd most likely suspecy KAV, also, have your tried turning that (annoying) UAC off, maybe even though it's asking you to allow or deny Sandboxie, and your allowing it, maybe UAC is still conflicting in some way?

Those looking for it need to click on "See All 13 Videos" to find it. Something is quickly stopping the sandboxed program from running.

Yep, had a look at the vid and the sandboxed process does seem to start but is stopped immediately.

Can you bring up taskmanager to see if anything related to Kav is running then try the sandboxed app again.

Leave taskmanager open and see if anything is increasing in mem usage when the sandboxed app is stopped.

Btw guys the video is here, anyways, after watching the video, i dont know what to say could be the problem? I know it isn't a Vista problem only, since there are others running Sandboxie on vista just fine, so it has to be some kinda conflict, but with what? Hmm....
