[.02] IE crashes on startup -- avast incompatibility

Post by PiwPi » Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:13 am

When I startup IE 9 in Sandboxie it crashes immediately and I get these error messages

I created a new sandbox with default settings and tested it again and the same thing happened. I'm using win7 64bit and Sandboxie 3.76 64bit and IE 9.0.8112.16421 64 bit

Any other security software that may have updated itself recently?

The only security software I have that auto-updates itself is Avast antivirus and it only updates the virus definitions. Other than that, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes will ask me if I want to update the definitions.

I tried downgrading IE 9 to IE 8 but that didn't help. I don't know what could have caused this as IE used to work fine with Sandboxie before. I also downgraded Sandboxie to earlier versions but it didn't help.

It's not IE. It's avast. Please take a look at this other topic for a discussion and workaround:

Yes that fixed it thank you tzuk. It's strange because I've had Avast installed for a month and IE didn't have problems after installing Avast. I also have Avast's real time monitors (shields) disabled all the time so I don't know why it was loading with Sandboxie. Anyways thanks again.

The incompatibility with avast should be fixed in version 4.01.02.
