Using Google Chrome with or without Sandboxie

I have read that Google Chrome is a browser that operates as a sandbox.

Is this principal the same as Sandboxie or would I be better off using Chrome sandboxed by Sandboxie for better protection?

There are chrome exploits and security bugs for Chrome (although far less vulnerabilities than other browsers). Running Chrome by itself is not an impenetrable form of security. There certainly is some benefit in running Sandboxie with Chrome.

Chrome's sandbox is vastly inferior because its protection is not kernel based. Chrome relies on windows security priviledge separation which if there is an os priv escalation exploit you're toast.

Sandboxie has much more customizable features/ restrictions which you can apply to all of your webfacing apps. Sandboxie also has a more successful track record than that of Chrome's sandbox. Sandboxie isolates all browser plugins even those not included in Chrome's default sandboxing such as Java -- a notorious virus magnet.

Chrome is the safest browser out there, so it is a good idea to use it. But its by no means a replacement or substitute for Sandboxie. Both are compatible and therefore you could safely run them together with no conflict.
