SandboxiePortable.exe refuses to run, gives false error msg

Post by frustrated » Sun Jun 14, 2009 1:34 am

Sandboxie Portable on USB drive always returns this error msg:

"Local install of Sandboxie found!
Location: <C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\>
SandboxiePortable will not be executed.
"

But there is no Sandboxie on drive C, only the Portable on a USB drive,

An install on drive C of Sandboxie was earlier removed and registry scanned after Portable refused to install because of the Sandboxie on drive C. (NB: That Sandboxie was installed but not running.)

Deleted Portable install and rebooted. Reinstalled Portable, the install ran perfectly.

No folders or reg keys for Sandboxie original drive C install remain, yet SandboxiePortable.exe still refuses to run. It always gives the error msg shown above.

Help would be much appreciated. :)

Sandboxie crash at start

Post by GuestHenry » Tue Jul 21, 2009 12:17 am

Referring to your question,

"Local install of Sandboxie found!
Location: <C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\>
SandboxiePortable will not be executed."

... a similar thing happens to me when I reboot without Terminating all running apps, delete content and most important it seems is allowing it to remove itself from the machine, ie uninstall.

Yeah, don't reboot with SBPortable running. You're exactly right, it won't get the opportunity to remove itself, and will leave things in an inconsistent state.

Trouble with installing

Post by drz » Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:48 pm

Hi,
I must be doing something wrong as others are getting it to work.

When I run SandboxiePortable.exe it comes up with "Initializing screen" then goes blank. after a few seconds it brings up a box saying "Cleaning Up" - says it is backing up the ini and uninstalling.

I downlaoded both SB portable and SB. My install of portable went to e:\PortableApps\SandboxiePortable
data\installer does have SandboxieInstall.exe inside of it.

I am running Win 2k and did do the gdi installation as well.

Thanks for any help.

The launcher hinges on SbieCtrl.exe. It launches this process then waits for it to exit, which will trigger the 'Cleaning Up' (uninstallation). This means that for whatever reason SbieCtrl.exe is not running or is crashing on your machine, immediately triggering the clean up. Try a real installation of Sandboxie and see if it works on this machine.

Sorry, gonna need more info than that. OS, specifically how did you install SandboxiePortable, specific steps to reproduce the problem, and the exact error message.

You can manually start the service using the sc.exe command line utility:

Code: Select all

sc start SbieSvc
or the Services.msc snapin.

I cannot help you to install the service, it must be done by the Sandboxie installer.

I don't think this problem is related to the portable Sandboxie. Can you install and uninstall the full version of Sandboxie a few times to see if you also get this error message?

64bit Portable....?

Post by sandboxierocks » Sat Jan 09, 2010 4:59 pm

Hi WraithDu

What are the chances of doing a 64bit version of sandboxie portable like the 32bit one?

Thanks

Off the top of my head, I think the current version should work just fine. Just make sure the installer is still named SandboxieInstall.exe. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

Sanboxie Portable 64bit! WORKS!!

Post by sandboxierocks » Sun Jan 10, 2010 3:32 pm

Well Wraithdu give yourself a BIG pat on the back on a job well done *applause*

Seriously. I was running windows 2008 server 32bit so I could use all my 8gb memory but I stayed with 32bit because of tzuk's sandboxie. The only reason.

So I installed Windows 7 Ult 64bit and followed Wraithdu's advice. I ran the "update.exe" in sandboxieportable and selected the 64bit version of the new sandboxie beta and in less than 5 seconds it was done.

All my settings, programs and everything is running just as it was!

I mainly used sandboxie to keep a "clean" system.. everything runs in it's own process, it doesnt touch registry, make messy files all over the place and I can attest that for people who use sandboxie for this type of purpose the journey to 64bit is as painless as you can get it.

Thanks Tzuk! Thanks Wraithdu! All my 32bit sandboxie apps are transferred to 64bit thanks to you!
