Yeah, thats right also another thing thinstall doesnt support is hooks, thats why i didnt even bother trying that out, cause i knew it wouldnt work.

Thinstall Apps

Post by RMDesai » Mon Jul 09, 2007 1:51 am

Hello,

I tried to thinstall ZoneAlarm and Sandboxie.
Both don't work. Thinstall has problems on Vista.
I need help with file association using thinstall.
Pardon me, I know I am in the wrong forum section, but I wanted to keep continuity.

TZuk,
Since thinstall works on the principle of sandbox, I think you should also venture into making a parallel app along the lines of Thinstall.

Regards,

Ravindra.

it already can... just zip your sandboxie folder where you installed the app, export the register to a .reg file, on the other pc, unpack your sandboxie folder, run the .reg file sandboxed and you have your application back

Exprt Reg

Post by Unknown_User_775 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 4:05 am

Sorry for asking a silly question.
Can you tell, from what portion of the registry Tree I have to export to achieve this?
:?:

Thanks & Regards,
Swami.

if you'd just take the effort to open up regedit in the first place i bet you'd find:

HKey_Users\Sandbox_Administrator_DefaultBox

prety obvious right? :p

Thinstall Apps

Post by RMDesai » Mon Jul 09, 2007 5:18 am

Hello,

Then, we only need a function added to make a .exe file of the trapped application.

Ravindra.

i think that would require almost a rewrite of the entire programm, it's not meant to be a portable piece of software, and if you use the portable version (which ofcourse you can create sfx for including all the contained program files of the programm you like, starting with start.exe PROGRAMM) it's also conflicting with installed versions or if you want to install sandboxie in the future, you'd have to clean out the registry manualy

wth kinda ideas/request are these?
Begin rant/
I tried to thinstall ZoneAlarm and Sandboxie.
Both don't work. Thinstall has problems on Vista.
I need help with file association using thinstall.
Obviously thinstalling ZA and Sbie didint work, seeing as they both use services, drivers and hooks which is just what Thinstall doesnt support, Secondly, Thinstall didnt have any problems with me on vista so quit trying to make it look like thinstall works on all windows but vista, and lastly what do you mean help with file associations with thinstall, you mean when you run a thinstalled program and then try to associate extensions?
TZuk,
Since thinstall works on the principle of sandbox, I think you should also venture into making a parallel app along the lines of Thinstall.
No it doesnt, thinstall is for compressing a program into a self contained exe, sandboxie is for trapping programs in a sandbox, big difference. Your comparing apples to oranges.
If SandBoxIE can do Thinstall ...Then, that is simply great !
I need that immediately
Nobody ever said that it could.
it already can... just zip your sandboxie folder where you installed the app, export the register to a .reg file, on the other pc, unpack your sandboxie folder, run the .reg file sandboxed and you have your application back
Nice alternative, but it wont satify them because its not "self-contained"
Can you tell, from what portion of the registry Tree I have to export to achieve this?
Its been posted on this forum a ton of times, just search for it.
if you'd just take the effort to open up regedit in the first place i bet you'd find:

HKey_Users\Sandbox_Administrator_DefaultBox

prety obvious right? :p
It is obviously obvious, but when your someone who doesnt take the time to do anything for themselves or even do a simple search, then it isnt so obvious.
Then, we only need a function added to make a .exe file of the trapped application.
Why, cause you want that? Well it aint as easy as "adding a function", there is no way to add a magic button that will make the program selfcontain itself as soon as you click the magic button.
i think that would require almost a rewrite of the entire programm, it's not meant to be a portable piece of software, and if you use the portable version (which ofcourse you can create sfx for including all the contained program files of the programm you like, starting with start.exe PROGRAMM) it's also conflicting with installed versions or if you want to install sandboxie in the future, you'd have to clean out the registry manualy
Exactly, i hate when ppl want a program to be or act like something its not. Quit complaining about what you dont have and be happy with what you DO have.

End rant/

Maybe you should just leave Sandboxie alone and let Tzuk look after it.

Now how about thinstalling Vista Chess and Mahjong Titans so I can play them on my XP drives.
