Netflix and Sandboxie 4.14 64 bit

Post by Fannin » Mon Jan 26, 2015 3:05 pm

Netflix won't run in a sandbox for me. I tried several fixes listed here and still am getting a DRM error with what appears to be Silverlight. The error I'm getting is:

Digital Rights Error (DRM) error
To resolve this issue follow the steps in our help center
Error Code: N8156-6205

The help center recommends not using Sandboxie. Nice. As I said I tried several fixes here that seem to be my issue but none have worked. Netflix runs fine outside a sandbox. What am I missing?

Is this a known issue or are other people not having this problem. It seems like a setting I should be able to fix. Anyone?

Thanks,
Fannin

You didn't tell us what browser you are using nor your OS, so I tested netflix under the latest Chrome, FF, and IE under Win 8.1-64. All worked for me.

Likewise it is working for me with Firefox 35.01 and the latest beta. I do have a fairly unrestricted sandbox.

I am glad to see netflix mentions Sandboxie in their troubleshooting, even if their recommendation is to not use Sandboxie https://help.netflix.com/en/node/1037

It reminds me of the old saying, "there is no such thing as bad publicity".

Or from Pirates of the Caribbean 1
"You are undoubtedly the worst pirate I have ever heard of."
"Ah, but you have heard of me."

Sorry I am using IE Version 11.0.9600.17498 and 64 bit Windows 8.1. So since nobody else is having this problem I'll investigate it further and see if I did something wrong setting up this PC.

I have a win 8.1 virtual machine, and I got stopped as Netflix needs Silverlight. At that point, I got hung by my lack of experience with IE. So at this point, I would say try it with firefox.

I tried giving the Silverlight directory full access and even direct access but no change. I wonder why my pretty basic install has problems when nobody else does. But it is definitely that Silverlight doesn't have the ability to save buffer files in the default sandbox.

Not really a solution but I ran FX unsandboxed to NetFlix once. Now it plays sandboxed.

That suggests something else might be blocking, but once you ran it unsandboxed that sorted out, so it now plays sandboxed.

I run Netflix unsandboxed in IE all the time which works great but then going back into sandboxie I still get the error. I tried reinstalling Sandboxie from scratch and it didn't help. I've looked at Silverlight and it doesn't say where it writes files to but it isn't in the Silverlight directory because I gave that full and direct access and it still has the error. It has to be something simple, most others don't have this problem with the latest software.

Have you tried reinstalling Silverlight?
