KB4056897 /KB4056894/Cumulative updates -WIN 7x64 SECURITY UPDATES - Compatibility issues[Fixed in beta 5.23.3]
I can no longer start Sandboxie on W7 x64 after installing the new patch, KB4056897. I believe I have version 5.22 of Sandboxie installed.
"This program is blocked due to compatibility issues". "Sandboxie is incompatible with this version of Windows".

Re: Will Sandboxie Still Work with the Windows Kernel Overhaul?
Same here. Uninstalled 4056897 and Sandboxie 5.22 was up and running again.
----Moved duplicate post from Problem Reports section ---
Today Microsoft issued security updates for CVE-2017-5754 / Intel Meltdown (and for Spectre. See https://meltdownattack.com/)
For my Windows 7 SP1 x64 (with Norton Security) the update is KB 4056897.
However, after I installed it and Windows restarted, I got an error/warning saying (I have to translate this to English):
"This programm is being blocked due to compatibility problems. [SbieCtrl.exe].
Sandboxie is incompatible with this version of Windows. …jada jada jada.”
Trying to run Sandboxie from \Sandboxie\Start.exe gave the same error.
So I decided to uninstall this update and now Sandboxie runs normal again. So beware with these updates.
Cheers

All,
UPDATE 2 ---Issue fixed in the latest beta:
viewtopic.php?f=64&t=25114#p131159
----------------------------------------------X -------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE--- I can repro the issue. I am moving half this thread to Problem Reports so we can track it there.
This is what Sandboxie returns after the KB4056897 update:
SBIE1113 Cannot find Nt system service, reason MASTER TABLE
SBIE1113 Cannot find Nt system service, reason AcceptConnectPort
SBIE1103 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) version 5.23.2 failed to start
SBIE9234 Service startup error level 9153 status=C0000001 error=-1073741823
SBIE1102 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) unloading
SBIE1113 Cannot find Nt system service, reason MASTER TABLE
SBIE1113 Cannot find Nt system service, reason AcceptConnectPort
SBIE1103 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) version 5.23.2 failed to start
SBIE9234 Service startup error level 9153 status=C0000001 error=-1073741823
SBIE1102 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) unloading
SBIE2331 Service start failed: [22 / 5] Access is denied.
I am working on updating Win 10 to see if that is affected as well. ---> The issue does not seem to affect Windows 10. or 8.1
Currently testing a potential fix for Win 7 x64.

The devs are aware. We will update this thread as soon as new info becomes available.
For the time being, the only workaround is to remove the update, or not apply it yet.

Don't know if you're asking me, but yes, that's the KB I applied and uninstalled again.Barb@Invincea wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 10:16 am....

For those waiting for updates for Windows and other OS's: beware that these updates will only deter Meltdown and Spectre problems on the level of the OS, but the real vulnerability is on the cpu side of things, so you will not be 100% safe until the firmware is updated by Intel/AMD/etc.
(Same goes for the already through Windows Update released 'patch' for Windows 10.)
Be safe
Re: KB4056897 - WIN 7 SECURITY UPDATE - Unable to use Sandboxie[Fixed in beta 5.23.3]
The same here, after the auto update with the security monthly quality rollup KB4056894 for Windows 7 x64 and Sandboxie 5.23.2.
Thank you very much for the quick update 5.23.3! Sandboxie works again.

Sanboxie Now Incompatible with Windows 7
Yesterday when I rebooted after updating Windows 7 with the update described in KB4056894, I received a message which in effect said that "This version of Windows is incompatible with Sandboxie v5.22." I presume that you will update Sandboxie to correct this incompatibility, but now I have no way to delete the files which Sandboxie had cached, because running Sandboxie is necessary in order to delete those files, and those files should be deleted before installing a new version of Sandboxie. What to do??

@JustFax You can also uninstall the update and resume with 5.22 till things are clearing up and Sandboxie releases the non-beta 5.23.
Some experts, like Woody Leonard, advise not to install any Windows updates yet:
"Windows, Meltdown and Spectre: Keep calm and carry on" https://www.computerworld.com/article/3 ... ry-on.html

The identified fix works like a charm. I had kept procrastinating on updating Sandboxie, so this got me moving.Sandcastle wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 8:25 amSame here. Uninstalled 4056897 and Sandboxie 5.22 was up and running again.

Hi all,
i also had to install the beta version 5.23.3 because of the windows 7 update(s). Unfortunately no Office 2013 program will work in sandboxie anymore. Is the problem already known or does anyone else have the problem? Here it can be reproduced on three computers.
Regards Simon

This is very bad news, as I just recently got that feature working. I've taken the chicken's way out, however, and uninstalled KB4056894 instead, so can't answer your question. Can I suggest you start a new thread on this under the Beta program? -- jclarkw

Thanks.
